Technical Number plate lights not working

Hello All,

I'm having an issue with my number plate bulbs not working. The bulbs (the correct wattage) has been fitted. I've had the tailgate handle unit out and nothing has burnt (connections or wires). I've checked to see if there is a separate fuse for the unit, and there isn't. I'm getting 11.5v coming through one of the 3 pins out of the plug where the handle connects onto. I'm not sure if there is supposed to be more than one pin with a 12v supply. Hopefully someone can help. Any ideas will be appreciated. Thanks

My wiring problem started with wiper coming on every time started engine then the reverse parking sensors beeping for no reason......

Get it checked at indie garage.....to fix the wiring in mine cost £110

The wife's 500 started to do this then she got warnings of a bulb blown when there wasn't, then the number plate lights died, ended up having to have a new handle/light unit. Was caused by water ingress, Fiat idiot just laughed and said they get a lot of this. Hatch wiring also went.

Why not just test for a power supply first

Are you getting the warning on the dash?

Yep, warning light is on the dash and I have check there is a power supply coming out of the plug. Tried to check plug on the handle side but couldn't get my multimeter in there very well. Does anyone know of a link to a Fiat 500/Panda lights wiring diagram?

From The loom which comes out of the car? I have! But like I said there is 3 pins on the plug? One will be a supply to the lights, one might be a supply to the boot release and another the neutral? That's why I want a diagram. I'll have another go with the handle unit in the next few days.

Maxi is referring to where the loom passes from the car to the tailgate (I think) not the one at the handle.

A massive proportion of issues with the electrics in the tailgate are down to the wiring and where it passes from the car to the tailgate. Always go for the most likely culprit first, plus it's cheaper than a new handle.
