Re: Re: Not my normal style at all

Actually we don't :)

The russian reactor design was rejected by the west (it was based on a canadian design) as unsafe.

My uncle was safety officer for Heysham nuclear power station for about 15 years.

Re: Re: Re: Not my normal style at all

This site is really interesting, I'm not fu%king about, It really opens your eyes to the whole thing, and being a 32 year old, I remember the whoe Chernobyl thing being on the news.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Not my normal style at all

I did a project on it at school, scary stuff!

The next worst is the Seascale fire in Cumbria in the 1950's closely followed by 3 mile island in the USA.

I couldnt help wondering what would happen if she took a tumble on her bike and gashed her leg open or broke her arm. Would radiation get in?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Not my normal style at all

Depending on what type of radiation it is, her clothes wouldnt make a difference...

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Not my normal style at all

I remember from a-level physics there are 3 main types of ionising radiation

alpha - is stopped by the skin or even a piece of paper and isnt very dangerous

beta - is stopped by a layer of metal, protective suits can help protect you against this

gamma - nothing can stop this, it isnt a particle like the others, just intense energy. Very thick layers of lead of block some of it out, but not all.

I imagine chernobyl is mostly kicking out gamma, so if she cut herself radiation wouldnt "get in" - the radiation passes right through you all the time anyway, ****ing up your DNA as it goes.

Nasty ****
