Just drove the wife to work and heard a tap tap from the engine lifted the bonnet and think its the tappets she has only done 1300 miles surely this is not normal anybody had problems before

well how noisey is it? its going to tap slightly that is normal but there is a difference between being ok and noisey.

In the car with the blower off you can hear a tap tap tap and it speeds up when the car goes faster i had trouble with my last car changed them it h was a v6 and had 24v but it was a old car just thought new cars would not tap so much is it normal to have a little tap in a 1.2 pop:confused:

Stewart, the 1.4 and 1.3 use hydraulic (self adjusting) tappets but the 1.2 uses the older style of valve clearance adjustment whereby you need to set the valve clearance manually.

In that case forget everything I said about Hydraulic tappets in relation to the 1.2.

Edit::doh: Just remembered the 1.2 is more expensive to service because of the required tappet clearence checks that the other engines don't need.

Tapping when idle and with revs, we all know that in cold weather the oil viscosity is greater but it seems to still be there when engine upto temp i have just checked oil it is a little bellow the full would that make a differance:) i am not used to small engines
