General noisey engine

Hi just got myself a 1.8 dynamic and it sounds like a diesel even when its warmed up ive read on here that its the variater does this need to be changed or will it be ok, the car runs fine no problems at all. Its a53 plate with 52000 on it, im planing to change the cam belt in a couple of months would it be ok til then. Cheers.

Combining fitting a new variator with a cambelt change makes a lot of sense. If you do a Google search on variator problems, you'll find mixed reports. Some, like the Alfa Romeo Twinspark engine say they can drive for ages after getting noisy without problems, others have failed catastrophically and caused engine damage.

I guess the prudent advice might be to bring forward your cambelt change...
