This 84 70s has 258,000km on it.
Goes well, or used to!:bang:

Yesterday, I went around a right hand corner and all of sudden clatter, clatter,
It sounded like the clutch thrust bearing had collapsed, or maybe a gearbox bearing, but no it wasn't!

This morning I took the gearbox out, first drained the oil and found what looks like a tooth from a gear on the drain plug!! :bang:

I have a later model Uno gearbox, bottom mount change, to fit in.
I already had a new clutch to go in, I did not know the clutch plate had different splines and the thrust bearing diameter was different.

So now I wait till tomorrow to get the right parts!

I am wondering which gear this tooth has broken off. The gearbox was good, no bearing noise, and good synchros, I was going to give it to a guy who has an 88 Uno with the same gearbox, and his has noisey bearings and the synchros are not much good.

How hard will it be to mix and match and make one good gearbox out of two?

Finally:
Later model gearbox, gear shift linkages etc, and axles, back in with a new clutch, and changed engine mounts.
Just need to replace one outer CV boot, and check all the bolts again and it might be OK.

I say might as I have a noise coming from the brand new release bearing.
It was very noisy on initial start up but has quietened a little.
Not sure what is going on. :bang:

Hope I don't have to take it out again.

Sounds EXACTLY the same as what happened to mine, & that was a differential planet gear that exploded.

It did still get me home (with the streering tugging to the left as the bits of tooth chocked between the diff & casing, cracking the alloy in the process).

Gearbox strip down I`m afraid.. :(
