I've recently had my alternator replaced on my gp but after a couple of days I noticed I wasn't getting turbo up till about 2300 revs. For example if I'm accelerating in third gear it'll be as slow as anything until I hit that magic mark when all of a sudden the turbo seems to slam in and off I go.
Is this a prime example of a sticky egr or could it be more serious possibly related to having the alternator replaced

Thanks for any tips?

Mike

what speed are you doing before you put your foot down?

if you like those eco idiots who change gear as soon as there is any sign of movment and in 3rd at 20mph then you will experience loads of lag.

from experience if you've got lag your changing gear way to soon ;) but that may be the biker side of me haha

Ive just been in it again and it felt like the engine was about to seize so quickly turned it off checked oil .. all was fine. Anyway started it back up now no turbo at all but its running okay... went a couple of miles and got home engine management light was on by the time i got back... :( just paid 350 quid for the bloody alternator. Gonna try and find my elm327 and try and read the codes off it in a minute hopfully just a split pipe or sumin but couldnt see anything on a quick inspection but was in my work uniform so was getting stuck in.

Any advise on things to try would be truly appreciated :)

If it a new turbo time im going to get it hybrided. (Mrs might go mental tho)

No nothing like that so i dont think the turbo has blown I havnt used this elm in ages whats the best free software i can quickly load up

Right i got the code p010f from it and also did a log of a trip and the psi on the intake manifold was about 14psi idle and then when i was trying to boot it going up to 28psi not sure how accurate the figures are :S i was hopping to see little pressure indicatinga split pipe but no joy :(

Is that absolute pressure, as of so it will read atmospheric pressure which is about 1bar and then above that is the boost pressure

It gave the value in both psi and kpa ( I think that was it ) but I definitely think it was the pressure from the turbo as from 14psi to 28psi i have heard is common for turbo pressures.

Its really driving strange. Ill start up the car and the turbo wont kick in till about 2500 revs then after about 5 to 10 mins theres no turbo and its driving like its in limp mode then it gets even worse as if the engines about to seize wont even rev quickly when standing still.

Then back to driving in what i can only describe as limp mode.

Bare in mind the car used to have no problem at all flooring it through all gears now its like a bloody train in first and second and your lucky to get any increase in speed when in a higher gear

p.s And by train i mean F$&*^%ing slow

I've got the same engine as yours and mines been remapped, on my turbo gauge my max boost is 22psi so 28 to me sounds too high :/ if I do normal motorway driving and I'm cruising it sits at 10 psi.

I'm got mine of an ex forum member and apparently it's been remap god knows what else but it is quick I just dunno what going on... Going to rule out a few simples tomorrow such as the airlifter is blocked and pipes arnt split.

On a side not got in it again for a drive from cold and turbo was kicking in at 2500 for about 5 10 mins then going dead again Hmmmmm

Maybe a bad sensor? If the turbo spools then when it's cold I can't see why that would be dead tbh. It is a strange one.

Where do I find the boost pressure sensor? I'm pritty sure I'll find the egr ontop of intake manifold somewhere

Boost pressure sensor is just to the left of the egr valve (on the back of the inlet manifold, held on by single torx bolt I think) you'll see the wiring loom going to it when you take the engine cover off

It might not be that or the egr but worth taking a look

Will take a look at definitely blanking off the egr at some point just need to get this fixed took it on a 20 mile journey this morning and i had turbo but only at 2500 seemed pritty slow and had occasional points where i had nothing.

Got fiat ecu scan on it last night and read the code p010f which was something like mass airflow sensor and something about conjurence which was much help.

Ive seen maf sensor going for 150 quids :(

Anyway ill get myself out of the house and infront of the car at some point this morning and see what i can do.

Yeah that's the sensor on the air filter iirc. Surely you can get them cheaper than that, have you tried a local scrap yard or car beakers on the tinternet?
