Hi,
first time posting and in massive need of help.

We have owned our Multipla for about 14months now and has been great.
with only a few hickups along the way,

two days ago it just stopped going into reverse.
before this it was fine no cruching.
we have already changed the clutch, the DMF was fine, very little wear.
i have changed the selector cables today, but still no reverse.
i can also select reverse by the gear selector on the gearbox.

ive looked around on the forum but no one seems to have just 1 gear not working and from the forum it looks like the slave master cylinder.

im hoping its not and i have missed an easy fix.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

pete

^ like urchin says. If the starter motor struggles to turn the engine over with it in reverse but your foot fully on the clutch pedal, then there's either air/pressure loss in the clutch hydraulics or something's not quite right with the clutch installation.

How long ago did you change the clutch?

could this be down to worn linkage guys? had this problem on a mk1 golf. still learning multiplas lol :)

Thanks for the replys,
I cant select reverse with the engine off. Clutch is max of 2500 miles ago.
Ive had a mechanic friend pop round, after much messing around weve come to the same conclusion as allbluedave linkage or something internal in the gearbox. The clutch and master cylinder are fine.

So looking for a gearbox or linkage
in the mean time . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . I bought a petrol multipla for 400. Picked it up this afternoon.
Its pretty good but drinks fuel on the motorway.

Sure I read somewhere on here about the spring failing in the master cylinder causing gear loss. Apparently the master cylinder is plastic? But can be replaced by a more robust cast version. With the clutch been hydraulic as well it well need bleeding after its replaced. Do a search on here :)

well after reading about the master cylinder, it look as if the pedal doesnt return properly if its failed.
it wasnt bled at time cause it seemed fine.
i think its gunna need a bleed first see if that helps. cheapest option.

no not yet, blead the system but no luck. its gunna be a second hand gearbox!

Have a look around the Internet for around a hundred pound u can have ur box reckon up north he changes some cogs or some jargan like that I'll look for it and post the details

Well managed to get this sorted.
I ordered a new gearbox and in the mean time began to strip my gearbox off, the new gearbox arrived as i undid the last few bolts.
as i tug at the gearbox to release it i notice 2 bolts underneath the bracket where the linkage cables go were LOOSE!
tightened them up and right as rain.

TWO BOLTS.

so now just sold the gearbox on and getting rid of the petrol multipla on friday.
