this seems a weird one.when i put my new battery on the car,non of the needles are working and neither is the odometer.Everything else lights up like 'lights on' icon,'door open' icon,'HB' , indicators etc..just the needles and odometer dont work

all was working fine and as it should before car came off the road so im confused.

Anyone any ideas?

came across this, what relay is it they're on about?
https://www.fiatforum.com/marea/125118-dash-board-stopped-working.html

also seen another thread on a brava,by removing the negative from the battery for a sec or 2 then reconnecting? Is it down to me jump starting my old battery the amount of times i did and then swapping over to a new one? But my thoughts would be if putting a new battery on would cure it?

or is just simply bad connections on the plugs at the back?

Happened to me once - it was a fuse. Check your fusebox on the left hand side to the steering column (y)

I have no experince of this I would guess fuse, then relay, then an earth point. It might be worth going over as many electrical connectors as you can with WD40 and cleaning.

I did everything I could on both my Bravos, and found a hand full of connectors where going green on the pins. Things like starting, electric windows, speakers and central locking where the most noticeably better.

i been out this afternoon and stripped the dash and the 3 plugs on the clocks were tightly in place,so i pulled them out and plugged them back in and still no difference.I went over all the fuses again and still not 1 has blown:confused: On the fuse cover it shows Service twice, but i have no idea which fuse they are.Weird thing is,before i took the car off the road everything worked fine.Whilst checking the fuses i came across a brown relay right behind the sterring wheel basicaly,to the left of the 2 vertical fuses.Could this be the culprit? 1 of the pins looked a bit brown.

It's recurrent to have brown pins. Unsure whether it is healthy but that's normal in relaying power (for instance to the headlights).
Given that apparently all the well-known problems were investigated, the best thing for you to do is to get the electrical wiring diagrams and follow the circuit to see where it can be wrong. It requires patience and methodology and unfortunately no short-cuts. That's what I would do... :(

that would take forever :(

think im best off gettin an auto eleky out.I rang fiat this morning to see if they could tell me what the fuses and relays were for.their answer was 'it doesnt show, just says the wattage'

Thing is im thinking of getin it on the rd for 1st july, now im not bothered about speedo or revs not working BUT i wont have a clue what fuel i have left :(

so i need it looking at

I'll try this weekend to have a look at the wiring and give you hints.

Had a brief look at the wiring but was unsure of what your original engine was. Anyhow, try checking the grounds. See ground 42 as this connects directly to the dashboard

i know it sounds abit daft but, try hitting the top of your dash. my temperature guage used to go sky high and show i was overheating, i had it all checked out but nothing was found. but every now and again the temp gauge wud shoot sky high, out of fustration i banged the top of the dash and it went back to its normal position.

Nunesaf..Thanks for that mate, ill have a look on fri when i got the day to myself :) oh it was a 1400 and the full loom went.

lol bangin the top of the dash was the first thing on my mind, and trust me i hit it lol the needles just bounced ha :D

How would i know if the clocks itself has blown? a mate is going to try get me some clocks at weekend BUT i might not need them as if i fit the others and it still dont work...anyone any ideas?

Thanks Mike

Right,i just been out and again dismantled the clocks.i seperated the actual chipboard for the unit and gave the connectors all a clean, then put the plugs back on switched ign on and still nothing :( I had a look for the earth leads but couldnt find them.I took out the service fuse a few times whilst the ignition was on and still the dials didnt work..really am puzzled

went to a few scrapyards in bury yesterday with a mate as he was there few weeks back and there was 1 20v marea in..only to find it had gone yesterday.£15 in fuel gone lol well i did manage to rob a new pipe that comes off the TB off a 20v na coupe.but then i suppose you can say that costed £15 l:( lol

ive emailed laods of breakers on ebay and there was a few 20v mareas,1 guy wanted 30+ postage for the clcoks :0

Is there anything else i can try and do to try get my dials working? like i say stripped the dials last week, seperated the back and the actual board from it all and just cleaned up and blew all the dust off and messed about with the connections on the top hoping for the dials to flicker, but nothing :(

Hi Mike

I dont know how usefull these diagrams will be but its all I have. These are Mk1 Bravo HGT, You have the Marea clocks dont you?

Pin 13A Speedometer Modual Signal
Pin 15A Signal from Speedometer
Pin 16A RPM signal
Pin 17A Coolant signal
Pin 16B Fuel level signal

Pin 14B Earth
Pin 17B Positive

I think it must be the positive supply to your clocks because your dash symbols are working and they use the same earth as the needles. All of the needles are dead and they share a positive supply.

Double check all the fuses and battery connections, If that does not help use a multimeter to check the clock grounds and positive supplys;
Pin 14B is Earth
Pin 17B is Positive

Hiya mate, many thanks thanks for that, good of you to post that up and coming up with a conclusion (y)

as you say theyre for the hgt mk1 and you are right i do have the marea clocks.
would the loom be the same do you think and its just the clocks that are different?
reason i ask,mk1 hgts have analogue odometer and mine is the digital display.same as mk2 hgt.

Should i check both my loom plugs and the clock connectors to see if there power going to either of them?

Its going to have to be a garage job as i have no way of testing the pins :s
Mike

Ade,thanks for posting those pics up.I printed them off and took them with me.I tested the loom myself as the guy was busy. The loom pins were numbered so easy to find, also there was a red and a black wire so easy to spot :)
couldnt get a reading at first when i put the earth connecting pin on the door,So i put the earth connecting pin on the earth pin in the loom and the positive in the pos. pin and then i got a reading of 12.50 (sumthin like that) on the display. So that basically told me the positive pin/wire in the plug loom is working :)

need new clocks now :(
