My HGT is in garage now to get a nitrous system fitted. It was dyno'd last week at 167 and the nitrous should take it up to 217 but i have heard that this is not the case, sometimes if you get a 50bhp system installed it can only give you a fraction of that extra power. Does anyone else have nitrous? I have also been told that the HGT can only handle about 220bhp without work needing done, is this true?

I think your tuner has been telling you porkpies.

What HGT is it (147/155) and what has been done so far?

Re: Re: Nitrous and HGT

it is the 147 model - hormann cams, induction kit, full exhaust, decat and chipped. also has the brembo brakes off a coupe

Re: Re: Re: Nitrous and HGT

Whats the spec on the cams? Was it chipped to suit those or just a general 'superchip' type chip?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Nitrous and HGT

it was a superchip but the chip was fitted before i had the cams. i have been told that the superchip needs to be done again to compensate for the cams, but have also been told that the best way to go is get a dastek chip which is far better. is this right?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Nitrous and HGT

Depending on the spec of the cams I think a proper tune with a dastek would get you 175+ easily.

Yogis has CB cams in his 1.8 with a dastek and gets 145BHP. It was dynod at 113 before the cams.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Nitrous and HGT

thanks for your help mate. as soon as i get car back i will look into it

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Nitrous and HGT

Where did you get the cams from? The CB ones are hard to get in the UK.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Nitrous and HGT

got the cams from the tuning shop - Hormann sports cams, cost me nearly £1000

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Nitrous and HGT

A grand for an extra 15bhp...

If that?

BHP doesn't come cheap nowadays does it? I'm seriously debating weather 500bhp injectors for nitrous would go well with my 1.2 16V :)
..Well maybe 50's
Obviously with a controller...

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Nitrous and HGT

My 155 HGT is fitted with a Nitrous 'wet' system with 75bhp jets. When it was initially fitted we went with the 55bhp jets to see how the engine run. We had to change the plugs and then run it with the nitrous on and take the plugs out and check they weren't 'carboned' up. If they were clean then it was doing ok. Also have to listen to the engine to make sure that when it's running with Nos that it doesn't start 'pinking'. If it does then this will start causing hot spots on your engine - which is not good! Anyway, upgraded to the 75bhp jets and still no problems. We have been advised however not to run a superchip as well as the Nos as this will cause damage - not sure of the reason - I'm only a girlie so therefore can only take in so much technical info. If you want any more advice you may be best emailing my better half who installed the system etc and he'll be able to tell you more - [email protected] Just thought this may help. On another point, it's bloody good fun kicking the Nos in. Stick suckers to your arse when you do it... LOL!
