Hi All

Sorry to ask a perhaps obvious question to some - however I have recently purchased a FIAT 500 '58 plate which will be one year old in a couple of weeks.

Does this car require an annual service or is there another FIAT policy I havent read about.

Thanks in advance

John

In summary:

- Yes you need a service
- If you've done low miles, get a low mile service, it's cheaper
- Any dealer will do it for you for about £250
- Yes you can get any other garage with a VAT number to do it
- The search is wonderful, wonderful thing

:D

I thought depending on mileage you only needed to service it every 24 months to keep the warranty. The 12 month one outside of hitting the mileage requirement is a suggested inspection isn't it ?

In the first year yes, you need to service it. 12 months or 10k miles I think. But either way, yes, you absolutely need to do it in the first year. If you've only done 200 miles then it's a low mileage service.

After that as per the miles indicated.

There seems to be a lot of confusion as to the low mileage services to the point where some were suggesting that when you did UNDER a certain amount you needed to get it serviced within a year but if you did OVER that amount buy under 18k miles you didn't need to get it serviced till 2 years or 18k miles which just doesn't make a lick of sense.

speak to your local fiat service dept- there is too much confusion on here at the moment regards servicing requirements mixed in with a good dose of opinions - and you need correct info.

it will depend on your engine size/fuel type more specifically.

also read thru a recent post titled 'service plan' where this was discussed in some detail

Just had our 58 plate 1.2 sport serviced. As far as I understand it if you do less than 10,000 miles in a year then you need a service based on time (yearly intervals). If you do more mileage you can go up to 18,000 miles or until the service indicator shows (measures oil quality?)

Had the low mileage service (oil, oil filter, cabin filter, safety check) for £119 - haggled from £160. Next time it is serviced (time based - in a years time) it will need a 'proper service' - spark plug change or whatever else they do!

The service indicator on the 1.2 doesn't measure oil quality AFAIK.

I had 11,700 miles on my clock after a year and my garage did a low mileage service for me for £120! I was well chuffed. I'm guessing they did that as more stuff is replaced for the 2nd one which will cost more?

I hope to do 2000 miles a year so a sevice every 9 years.
my van is 2 now and its over 10,000 miles now.
12 month service was a low mile one
24 i had a full one done.

i cant see anything in the service booklet for my abarth about a low mileage service - anyone know if you can still get one for it like the other 500s? i only do about 5000-6000 miles a year so i damn well hope so!

On another point - I have had a quote for a low mileage service from FIAT for £146. My local garage however has said they can do it for £55!! I understand they need to be a registered garage and use genuine FIAT parts but by using the independent garage am I puting my warranty in jeopardy.

Also how do I know im using a registered garage and ensure they use genuine FIAT parts?!?! Help!

From a VERY confused FIAT 500 owner

Regards

John

As long as they use genuine parts (you can supply them) and are VAT registered then there are no probs with the warranty.

The service indicator on the 1.2 doesn't measure oil quality AFAIK.

As above, I think only the diesel warns about needing an oil change and I think that it is mainly based on the number of DPF regenerations the engine has undergone (as well as other factors) rather than actually monitoring the oil quality.

D4nny8oy or one of the other techs will know for sure.
