The above is probably OK but you need your VIN to be sure.

Use ePER on thsi website with your VIN.

You will then get the current, past and replacement part numbers and a list of vehicles that use the same part.

S130,
Wasn’t sure weather to start a new thread or try to keep all the info together ?

In regards to coolant temp, do Fiat generally get to temp and should stay there?

Our 16v T reaches temp fine, doesn’t go over 90 but once the air is flowing , on the motorway for instance will reduce right down to 50.

My head says it shouldn’t go that low and should stay steady and this is my thinking that a new thermostat is needed . I believe if it goes that low, ecu may think it’s in the warm up phase and chuck loads of fuel in.

I have replaced the coolant temp sensor for good measure .

Be good to hear from experienced Fiat owners if that is the case

Thanks

I'm trying to recall what our 20V non turbo Coupe did.

Generally speaking the thermostat should regulate at 80 to 90 deg.C . Older Fiats tend to have lower thermostat regulation thresholds opening around 77 to 81deg.C with max opening around 95 compared to more modern ones. So this indicates and expected 15 deg.C possible swing.

If standing idle the temperature is going to 90-95 deg.C and then the fan is cutting in and cycling in and out then this is normal. If pushing the engine hard the temp remains around the 90-95 then this too is normal.

Lower temperatures are not such a bad thing.

A simple way to test the thermostat is the radiator hose grab. When the engine is cold the top radiator hose should be cold and then warm up. The bottom hose will also be cold. The top hose will get hotter and hotter and the bottom hose still only mildly warm. The top hose will eventually be very hot and then the thermostat will open and you will find that the bottom hose rapidly become very hot. This should all happen before the fan cuts in. If your car has aircon then turn this off for the test.
