Newbie with HGT alarm problem

I have a bit of a problem with my alarm. It appears to set, the indicators flash, the doors lock and it beeps but the dash light has stopped coming on. I have looked at the owners hand book but it's a bit confusing and I can only see reference to turning the interior motion sensors on and off? Any thoughts as to whether the alarm is actually on or what I have done wrong and how to get my dash light back on?
It a 155 HGT Bravo registered in 2000 with a standard as sold fiat alarm if that helps!

Confused and frustrated!

Help!

leave your window wound down set your alarm and stick your head in, best not do it late at night if the alarm goes off then its workin

Sounds like a plan for the morning! but still doesn't help with the reassuring little flashing light on the dash.......

Any other suggestions?

Claire

the bulb/led may be blown.

As far as I know it is a led and they don't just blow. I'm sure I must have pressed the remote while it was in my pocket or something. Sort of re-setting or turning something off....

Chances are its not the LED they just dont fail very often. best way to test the alarm is to open the boot with the alarm turned on. If it turns out the alarm is working i would check the power supply to the led.

hope that helps

FYI a whole range of things can cause an LED to burn out. exposure to excessive heat, to high a voltage, age.. Yes, they last 10,000 hours of use in normal conditions, but they do fail. otherwise i wouldn't be replacing the failed ones in my car every 3 months!
in particular, the right hand side of th interior light, and both the sidelight bulbs are prone to going, though the sidelights go because of the heat of the H1 bulb just 30mm away from it...

Its not the LED!

I sat in car this morning:
* no flashing dash light
* turned alarm on
* no flashing dash light
* moved around bit
* alarm came on
* turned alarm off
* flashing dash light - 5 repeated pulses

* turned ignition on briefly then off again, flashing stopped

* turned alarm on
* no flashing dash light
* moved around bit
* alarm came on
* turned alarm off
* flashing dash light - 5 repeated pulses

* got out of car
* turned alarm on
* flashing dash light still

So the LED works! the alarm works! I guess what I want to know as a new owner is "should the LED on the dash blink all the time the alarm is set? Or does it only come on after the alarm has been triggered to tell you it's been triggered!" This is a standard alarm that came with the car so I was hoping some one out there might have the same alarm and could say whether the light should blink all the time or not!

Help!!!!!

Yeah i have the same alarm in my hgt but to be completely honest i am not 100% sure if it should blink all the time the alarm is set. i will have a look in a min and let you know. shouldnt take long just a quick trip to the car park

My led does flash all the time just been and looked. Flashes at a steady rate of about 1 a second. If the rest of your alarm is working then it not really something to worry about.

From what you said the ultra sonic sensors are working and its locking the doors etc so i wouldnt worry.

Thanks for looking!

A sane answer in a mad world! Roll on Thursday night and then a few days out of the office and in the sunshine with my car and I'm sure I wont give a monkeys do-dar if the light blinks or not!

Claire
