Hi all,

Just joined today, so thought I'd say hello *waves* and highlight my dilemma.

I bought my 2nd hand 03-reg 1.2 16v Punto Sporting Speedgear back in Sept last year. It's been a dream to drive, no problems whatsoever, until my CVT transmission decided to act up last week. :bang:

Basically, it took a lot longer getting into first gear from a standstill and it kept slipping into lower gears while on the move. Because of this, I'd struggle to go any faster than 40mph and if I did, the warning light would come on.

Had my local Fiat dealer look into it and they said the whole transmission needed replacing. They quoted GBP1,400 for a reconditioned transmission plus GBP600 for labour, which is obviously a LOT of money!

Should I bother getting it repaired or should I just try selling the car as it is? No doubt Fiat are being over the top with their quote, in which case what is the likelihood of finding a cheaper CVT transmission? Anyone got a spare one lying around?

I am worried that I will get next to nothing if I do decide to sell, despite the car being in great condition, apart from the transmission, of course. It's also got a brand new MOT and less than 41,000 miles on the clock. Any ideas?

Sorry it's such a long first post, but hopefully someone can help! :worship:

Sorry to hear about your woes :( ask binki dave the mod who also has a speedgear punto maybe he can help or give you some info about the transmision ..welcome to here :)

Wow that sucks big time. I would ring round every scrap yard you can, check on eBay for people braking, addtrader etc and pick up a new box that way.

Have tried but CVT boxes are so hard to come by! Will soldier on though. I'm seriously contemplating the manual conversion option, although I have no idea about the how and how much.

Thanks for the welcome and suggestion. I have PM'd binki dave and will see what he says.
