Hi all, glad go be amongst you all!

Need to pick everyone's brains - just bought a W (2000) Punto ELX with 58000 miles on the clock. Thought it was too good to be true, and so it has proved. 20 miles into my ownership and I suspect the head gasket has gone.

I am attempting to return to the seller, but he is attempting to fob me off with "not my problem". If the worst comes to the worst and I have to foot the bill-how much is it going to cost me for the whole job? And is anyone able to recommend someone in the Marlow/High Wycombe area to do it?

Thanks in advance,
Glen

 Hi Glen and welcome to the forum. Sorry that you have experienced problems already and I am sure that you must have certain rights under law if it can be proved the car was faulty when purchased.

However I think it is a lot harder to resolve when it is a private sale. Maybe a visit to the local CAB or a phonecall to the local Trading Standards would give you a better idea of how to proceed.

With regards to the second part of your question I would definitely get it professionally checked to determine the exact problem as you will need a report anyway if you need to take the claim against the seller any further.

If this confirms your diagnosis then the guys in the Punto section can give you all the info you are looking for and maybe some suggestions for a recommended Fiat specialist in your area.

I wish you good luck. (y)

Thanks Tony,

The guy who sold it has offered to get it repaired - so I'm happy enough for now...

Will keep you posted!
