As thread title says - hello from a newbie

I've been lurking for a while and finally got round to de-lurking and registering.

Y'know, I can never think of anything to say in hello posts. What are you going to want to know about me? Should I start at the beginning and tell you I'm a novice fiat owner? Loving it btw. I probably shouldn't tell you I will be seeking advice about the car in case it stops you from reading any more of my posts.

Damn :dunce:

It's ok, they're easy questions that you can all probably answer immediately - honest. Just bear in mind I'm a girly and keep the replies non-technical

So is there any thing else you want to know? Car colour? (Sorry, girlie thing again :wink :) favourite drink? music? when was the last time I robbed a bank? (gin and tonic, eclectic and never). Ask away and I'll maybe answer truthfully.

Oh god, what am I letting myself in for...

ETA: I've just realised it doesn't mention what car I drive in my info section. I kinda assumed that would be there since I was asked when I signed up. Anyways, I drive a Grande Punto Sporting. It's great fun to drive and converted me to fiat as soon as I test drove it

Hiya, welcome to the madhouse!

Where abouts in the shire are you from? Get some pics of the car onto the forum :)

Pics? It may be a while as the car is in no state to have it's photie taken. There's a thick layer of mud on it and I'm too lazy to wash it off. I'm waiting for the firemen to do their charity car washing thing and I'll pay them to do it.

I'm in Ellon and can be found driving the back roads to Dyce daily.

Ah nice. Theres a couple of us in Ellon/Surrounding areas. You might have seen my Bravo HGT around before it got written off :(

I've only just started noticing Fiats so no I didn't see your Bravo. I read your thread about the Bravo getting written off and the one introducing your new car. Am I right in thinking your fixing up the Bravo? Or did I imagine this?

Welcome along! GP's are a nice motor, Italian cars always get ya hooked :devilish:

I'm hooked alright. But am slightly fed up defending my decision to buy a fiat. The sooner people realise Fiat have fixed many of their old issues the better as far as I'm concerned

people who criticise fiats generally know f all about cars.

tell them i said that if they question you again :D

if mr a or abyss see this thread, maybe they'll remind me how many broken down Hondas we passed heading to the mini meet yesterday?

i think it was 3

:) I'll be sure to tell them some bloke I've never met off the internet says they know f all about cars. At the moment I'm happy to tell them I don't care as the car is great to drive

tell them im on here, they can then come and argue with me their points or come along to meets to argue them with me in person :)

either way, criticising fiats for the sake of it shows either they know f all about cars, or at very least, know f all about fiats :D

im not even a blinkered fiat fan boy, i have a vauxhall as my daily runner, lol

Welcome to the wonder that is FS

Glad you're enjoying the experience of owning a Fiat so far. Only thing that's ever ruined the experience for myself a bit is the epic fail that is my Fiat dealership. Italian car specialists are now my friends

Hmm i could never fault a Honda, but same again i could never fault the cento. As that's the only fiat i had experiences with.

I personally deem all car the same regardless of makes, if they have been taken care of. The reason why fiat is having a image is just because people buy them cos they are cheap and never do maintain them in how they should be!

Welcome :) , is a very good engine in your car take care of it.

Thankfully I've not yet had to take the car back to the dealers (frantically touches wood) but as it's Uncle Arnie I'm not looking forward to it if I ever have to. I have free servicing with them for the first two years and I'll be asking for advice before hand and making sure it's done properly

I've never owned a diesel before - I previously practised bangernomics on petrol vw's. They were not too bad as long as I put them in for a decent winter service and had them checked over pre-MOT in the spring. Plus did the usual easy checks of oil, water, tyre pressure myself (I did say easy). It's going to be a learning curve and any advice will be received with thanks. I kept the revs at a sensible level until I'd done over 1000 miles and even now I never push the car until it's warmed up. Is there anything else I should be doing?

Hi and welcome to FS.

Thank you

Ermm diesel you say ? Am not too glued up to the Grande punto, but you did say you drive a "Grande Punto Sporting" ? I thought that was a 1.4 16v petrol ?

May be you have an M-jet ?

Regardless, you are correct. I always let my car warms up before the rev rises.

Yes it's a 1.6 multijet sporting. I probably should have put that in at the beginning.

I'll maybe force myself to wash it at the weekend and get pics on the site.

hi and welcome Harper, I'm a fellow GP sporting owner myself, unfortunately im waiting for mine to come back from the body repair shop due to some issues with a stone wall, but they are still great cars and I'm sure you will get miles and smiles from yours!

welcome along to the club of slightly strange peeps :D

good choice on the 1.6 diesel engine its a crazy piece of kit to put int GP 120bhp and 236lb of torque and £30 a year to tax :) not many cars can pull that one off :)

christ ive had nothing but bother with jap cars :)
only eally had stupid little problems with fiats :) just so easy to fix them if they go wrong :D
