hi, im new here, only had a bravo a week! so hello everyone. I need to replace the alternator belt.. where abouts is it on a bravo?

its a hgt 20v 155 :) as you look at the engine the cam belts on the left side.. wheres the alternator?

Whats the easiest way to get to the belt, to put a new one on?

Thanks on the above

This may be a long thread as there's lots of problems i need to fix on this one :(

it wont start.. when i turn it to start position.. theres no engine turnover.. just the battery light stays on? flat battery?

Also the car wont lock? putting the key in the door and turning it wont move, nor will pushing the lock down with your hand.. cause of the central locking?.. flat battery?

These probably sound stupid questions.. but ive only had it a week..

but.. Anything you need to know about vectras im your man :)

was this the yellow one that was on ebay?

not starting and locking is prob due to to flat battery which is due to no belt on your alt, first get belt on then charge battery should start after this?

lock problem dose the other locks push down by hand or will the pass side lock with the key? battery light comes on but no turnover when mine was flat the ignistion lights came on and the dile nedels went a bit mad. try anew batt and hope it not a imobiliser prob

Cheers mate!

Yes was that yellow one.

ok it will start now after a batt charge :) cant change the alt belt yet :( .. as dont have the locking nut tool for the wheel :Grrr:

anyone got a second hand one / ideas where i can get one from? its roungly triangular shaped locking nut.. with small serrated edges.

*the door still wont lock.. by hand or with they key.. even though the batt has a bit of juice now. could it be ignition related? any ideas? they key i have is blue.. not the red one if that makes a differece?

Any ideas why this wont lock??

also how do you remove the outside door handles? take door apart/ unscrew from inside?

Any ideas about the locking nut tool? does this sound standard for fiats

did u get the red key with the car though?

No i didnt get the red key?!

funny thing is though.. this makes the key code symbol dissapear from the dash when it inserted next to the key code sensor.

and although my ignition barrel has been snapped out the key still fits and turns it.

however no red key. what is the red key? master key?

this blue one also does the petrol cap , but cant open/ close the boot or either door?

as for the locking nuts.. understand a chisel and a hammer.. can make this come off.. will give it a try later

Blue key makes Code light go off = correct key for code..... why that dont fit doors and boot would maybe suggest different locks, but very strange how it would fit the Petrol Cap, maybe you can get keys cut to fit locks take a lock to a local locksmith see what happens…

Red Key is the key that gives the code to have new Blue keys cut if you lose them (you maybe able to get a key cut from a blue key I had two cut from my blue key as I have no Red key), if red key has been lost/stolen and no blue keys are present it would be a new lock set and key with ecu's…..

Cant comment on the locking nuts wouldn't like to try that….. you could always try a shotgun lol

Ha! may need to try the shotgun if this fails!

Apparently beating it the way it would undo (anticlockwise) you can usually get it to turn.. and i dont care if the bolt get wrecked. just want it off!

thingh about the locks though.. even pushing them down by hand passenger and drivers doors from the inside.. they dont go down.. feels like something will snap before it presses down.

Surely if they dont go down by hand.. a new key may not help either? and perhaps there a small possibility there is still hope for my old key...

shall i take the lock out and have a look?

how do the door cards come off?

pull? clip? wherre are the screws and how many?

cheers

Yes take door cards off not sure exactly where all screws are but its not hard and you will find them there may even be a guide on the repair guide section of this site, if i remember rightly there are 3 or 4 screws bottom of the card and a couple down the side near dash and two bolts on the inner door handle (cant remem if handle needs to come off…)..

It's obvious to say that this car fell victim of an attempted theft may the bas***ds that did this die also they could of screwed the barrels up trying to get in…… there is an Ebay shop doing a full ECU and lock set for a bravo (£100 or best offer) off a 1.8 but not sure what the compatibility would be like and then there is fitting it…

Hope it helps matey.

Cool cheers guys,

Ok.. battery now up and runnung.. yes some people treid to nick the car.. bast*ds!!

ok with door shut, the locks work.. so must be a central locking issue. i think i need to try and get another key from fiat that will open the central locking.. if this is possible..

Or failing that.. did i get this right, that if i got a key/ ignition barrel/ ecu/ and door/ boot? locks off a scrapped 2.0 HGT 155 i could swap them over and use the key off the scrap car?

Or if i can get a key from fiat that works with central locking.. i then need a new ignition barrel. Ive heard that a locksmith made a new barrel for a friends missus? anyone heard of this?

really dont know what im gona do about the ignition.. can you buy blank ones? or should i look for new ecu/locks etc? .. but it sounds expensive... :(

as long as you have one key that works i would not worry for the time being, cheaper than geting new locks ecu etc would be have an aftermarket alarm fitted and wired in to your CL

When i bought mine it only came with Blue key..... i made the fatal mistake of not knowing the red key story.... anyway i got extra two keys cut from my blue key (£40) and then had a COBRA aftermarket alarm fitted which now controls the Central Locking at the touch of a button....

You said c/l works when doors are closed.....i dont follow you...

Close all doors and lock car from drivers side if all doors lock its ok. Sit in car close doors and push drivers door lock pin down if all doors lock its ok...... When the car door is open and you push door lock pin down as far as i know it wouldn't lock and that would be normal.....(correct me if im wrong..)

If you got a full key/lock set and ecu from scappy for a HGT that would be spot on.

your right on that Karl the door pins WON`T go down if the doors are open, only if they`re shut they will lock, need to figure out what DAve means to be honest
