Hi Charlie!
Thanks for your reply mate! Basically, my wifes 54' Punto suddenly went wrong last week, the gearstick suddenly going 'floppy', and only moving very loosely backwards & forward, but not side to side. It was also still in reverse. I was told that it was probably the gearbox 'cables/rods' that'd snapped/come off, etc. though after following advice off this forum, I did the 'test' by popping the ball-sockets off both cables/rods, at both the gearstick, AND the engine/gearbox end, and both upper and lower cables/rods are working perfectly. The cluth is also working perfectly fine. What I have found out, is (as I am looking towards the car standing infront of the bonnet, looking down towards the engine...) that when the 'lower' cable/rod is in either the left or right position, the 'upper' cable/rod will not allow the 'lever' (where it is attached to the gearbox/engine) to move at all, yet when the lowere rod/cable is in the 'middle' position, it will allow the upper rod/cable to move, as the lower rod/cable also then moves 'inwards' from the middle position, towards the engine...does that make any sense mate??!
PLEASE pal, ANY information/ideas would be greatly appreciated!! We are EXTREMELY short of cash at the mo, and if I can at least 'identify' the issue for definate, then at least we can tell the garage what it is, which would hopefully cut down on some of the costs??!
Thank you in advance Charlie, many regards, Darren
