Hiya all,

I'll start by saying i am clueless on how to install the kit but could work it out with the right help.

Anyway, i wanna upgrade my 1.2 MK1 punto's sound as i need to replace the rear speakers anyway as the diaphram is bust on one.

I can choose the best in sound as i grew up playing music and so i kinda still got the ear for the good and bad.

What i wanna know is what do i need to do/get?? I wanna get a Sub in the boot, but how do i power it?? I know i get a wiring kit and it can go to my head unit, or do i need an amp??
This is what i mean!!! but if anyone can tell me the options i have i can work out most of it myself.

I seen some rear speakers in Halfords, and have played all of them and selected ones i like but they say i need an adapter @£19.99!!!!!!!!!!!!????????
Is this true or can i get it anywhere else??

I've got a few months on this as i need brakes and tax next month  but any help'd be great!!!

Cheers,

Carl.

Yes you will definately need an amp to run the subwoofer :)

As for the speaker adaptors, you will need them to fit the speakers into the original fiat locations. They're autoleads ones, and can probably get them cheaper online somewhere rather than paying halfrauds prices ;)

edit: But if the speakers are small enough you may not need the adaptors :)

First of all start by junking the Fiat head unit for something better.

To get the best sound quality you need an amplifier, the ones built into the HU are feeble in comparison.

Best bet is:

A 4 channel amp, a pair of component speakers for in the front and a sub woofer in the boot. This will give the best "soundstage".

But before all that, let me know your budget.

The very first thing you need to decide. Its too easy spending more cash you can afford on stuff you don't necessarily need.

paulbfd,

I got a new head unit already, cd/mp3 player so that sorts that.

I'll probably aim for £100-£150 unless that will only get me rubbish gear!!

I have time for this as i need service, brakes and tax this pay day
I'll probably be looking september/October for this. I may even get the amp one month and the rest another, depends what carries over this month.

You can get an amp and sub easily for that sort of money, and the stuff you could buy for that amount of money ain't that bad.

As Paul said, a pair of components up front with a sub, all of them amped would be the best from a soundstage point of view.

100-150 would easily get a decent pair of components as well.

HTH

ok, whats the differnece between components and speakers??? (i did warn you!!)

Also being a mk1, the fronts need to be 87cm's???

speakers in your sense as called co-axials - a speaker that has more than one cone sharing an axis. EG a 6x9 is a co-axial - it has the large cone for bass and in the middle it usually has a tweeter. This is a simple 2 way coxial. if it had 2 tweeters, then it would be a 3 way coaxial.. (hope you're with me). The advantage of these is you get the full range from one location, and are cheaper on the market.

A component speaker has totally seperate axis' for each speaker cone. These are usually refered to as a mid bass driver and a tweeter. You will also get a passive crossover with them to filter out the treble on the midbass driver and filter the bass out from the tweeter. The advantage of these is you can create a much better sound stage (as bass is uni directional whereas treble needs to be directed), and provide better sound quality and power handling. However these are much more expensive.

hope i didnt miss any key points :p
