hi there people.i recently purchased a mk1 uno turbo the other day which is a fixer upper.being new to the world of uno turbos i have a few questions.first is where can i get items such as dizzy caps and rotor arms from? went to halfords and they said i would have to go to the fiat main dealer for parts and as ive owned a tempramental coupe 16 valve turbo i know what main dealer prices are like.any sugestions for a place to get parts from, live in the portsmouth area.also is there a turbo that will fit a mk1 that is off of another car?for examle a fiesta turbo or something.not looking for stupid power hikes just trying to pull in some information thats all.thankyou for your time, many thanks,Dave.

Most motor factors should be able to supply said items the same day.

Re turbo's its a tricky one, some mazdas have the same turbo/manifold stud pattern but they're un common so i'd either swap toa mk2 manifold and increase your options of turbos with a T2 flange or save for a hybrid turbo.

What mods does it have now?

Tom

hi there tom, does the mk2 manifold go straight onto the mk 1 engine or is there any modifying that needs to be done? as for engine mods its got a dump valve and an induction filter.cheers,Dave.

Alright mate

Welcome to the land of UTs (y)

As for the dizzy and rotor arm...............Halfords can get them, i know this as i work on parts at halfords in south croydon! lol

They can get them from their suppliers!
Just make them phone up!

The standard turbo is a IHI unit (MK2 is a Garrett unit), im pretty sure a mk2 manifold would bolt on a mk1 engine but i havent tried yet

Im sure others could sort you out on that front

As for parts mate they are about, just gota be a woman about it and moan your arse off to get it! lol

cheers biz,i went into halfords in gosport today with my trade card ready to part with some cash but they said they didnt have the parts and said they couldnt order them.the car i just bought has a reported missfire so im trying to get bits in that i think are causing the problem.

Yes mate the mk2 exhaust manifold will fit on to the mk1 block just a simple straight swap and then you have a wider choice of turbos to fit.
This site is very good at faults and guidence so post all your questions up and id be more than happy to help..

cheers rob, what turbos fit onto the mk2 manifold?and what turbo would you recomend? cheers, dave. :slayer:

As the mk1 kid said a good motor factor is probably a better bet and will be cheaper too. I recently compared service items between Halfords and a factor and the factors were about 1/2 the price that was retail prices no trade cards for me.

Got any pictures of said Uno?

not sure how to get pics on here but ill try, they're not very good but should get some better ones soon.

soapstar,

Your Uno looks great doesn't it! (y)

I like the wheels and the 'clean' look in silver with the colour-coded mirrors. Looks nice and straight and rust-free. When I had an Uno 60, I painted the instrument cluster top like that as well... Even that wiper has its practicalities (it's sometimes a little irritating having it in front of the driver) though I hope there's Rain-X on the rear window! :)

I don't really like that front grille, but then I would say that wouldn't I, as it is the obvious thing that stands out as 'different' and I like the original. That grille gives me the impression of being a piece of 12mm MDF with a hole routered in it. It would look better with more 'depth' IMHO.

Now, the misfire...
Mine's still on the original distributor cap I think, unless it's cracked they don't really wear out apart from the carbon brush which should probably stick out 4mm or so. What do the plugs and leads look like? Mine's still on the original leads  Maybe run the engine at night and look for flashes... and try a new set of spark plugs since the original change interval was quoted as 7,500km in the handbook (4,660 miles).

And about the turbo. I think that Mazda Familias and Subaru Legacies use a similar IHI turbo, but you probably need to match up several parts (different compressor wheels etc.) to create something that works well. It won't be a question of taking one off a larger engine and bolting it straight on; well it can be, but you'd lose driveability and economy.
