New Tesco 99 Octane fuel

Interesting indeed. I hope that others will follow with the bio-fuels mixture, and bring all petrol quality up to a high standard.

ive used it aswel, must say it didnt seem to make much difference, im filling my car up with optimax, for some reason it just seems more responsive

They did a test on 5th gear last night on channel 5. Tested optimax super market cheapo stuff and something else. They found it made no differance in a normal car, but in a Golf GTI and imprezza it made a fairly good increase in BHP!

Basically I don't think it'll make any differance in anything other than a highly tunned jap engine! Us Fiat drivers would prolly be better off using the cheapest at the pumps.

But that thing on 5th gear was just performance based. They didn't tell us if it was better for your engine or whether it did more mpg, which is what a lot of people would like to have known. Channle for for ya that is

I did wonder about the differance a clean engine would make, but it'd prolly burn more oil, loose water and perform less well I think, especialy in some of the older engines. Afterall dirt and grime often blocks potential leaks etc. It's a hard one to call. In my M reg punto which sounds like a tractor I'll be opting for the cheapest at the garage. When I get my Brava in a day or two, I may consider the slightly more expensive fuel and oils etc you never know I spose!

higher octane fuels benefit cars with knock sensors. if you're car doesnt have one then theres not much point using it, unless its been setup to do so. for example, if i ever turbo charge my cinq it'd would have to run on optimax or better or it'd blow itself from pinking

well if you use high octane in the 16v turbo 2.0 fiat engine,it keeps the head nice and clean.ive seen two heads off them.one run on 95,the other run on optimax.the difference around the valves was amazing.fiat engines especially twincams, dont like low octane.97 or more is good for them.:)

i think thats more down to the detergents that that are added to optimax, not the octane rating though
not really, its the way it burns.it is a cleaner fuel, and burns and ignites better.no ****e left to mess chambers up.:)

i would say that if noticable around the valves, inlet in particular its down to detergents. I use 95 ron in mine and before i took the head off last year i used injector cleaner in it. It was clean around the inlet valves - down to the cleaner.
