hi ive just bought a sony cd player,i just swapped it str8 over with the original tape player outta my car,it works fine but the bass treb etc is digital and everytime i turn my ignition off it loses all the settings

Have you read the manual? It should have instructions on how to save settings. Without knowing the model number or anything, we can't help you.

Is it a matter of swapping red/yellow power wires over?
are you sure the memory permanent lead is connected?

Do you lose the station setting as well?
The question is...
Does the stereo turn on ONLY when the Ignition is on??
are the red and yellow wires joined together?
If so, you may have wired the power cables to the ignition feed instead of the constant feed. Therefore everytime the ignition is turned off it has no power to save the changes.
Yellow to permanent live
red to switched (ignition live)

:yeahthat: I had the same problem and switching wires solved it Depending which make and model of stereo you have, you might be able just to swap connectors, or you may have to do my trick and cut and solder

cheers guys its a sony cdx-f7700 and yes it loses all the radio stations aswell,it also turns completly off when i turn the iginition off..so do i just swap the yellow and red wires over?
I have this headunit, and have had no problems, must be wire related.
To preset the stations you have to hold in the 1,2,3,4,5,6 and it will beep and flash the corresponding number on the screen

yes i have done that but everytime i turn the ignition off it just loses everything

All that need be done is switch the yellow and red over so the yellow wire has the constant power feed and the red wire having the switched power feed. Failing that, the yellow wire should have a connector to plug in the red wire, so the stereo will work with the ignition off.
