Im looking at buying a 01 Sei its done 61000miles, i am having a talk withthe guy about any problems with it and of course asked a bout over heating he said " I didnt have any problems with overheating. I did used to have to top the water up every few weeks but nothing major" is this something i should be worried about as i have an 899 cinq and havent topped him up in the last 2 months.....

advice please i dont want to buy a dud

It may not be the gasket, but it's def not normal, unless he's only topping up a few ml (very unlikly).

Give it a thorough check over if you go to view. If it's an auction, steer clear, and be prepared to haggle a lot if i does look like HG. (at least £200 off)

Perhaps there is a problem with this that is not being let on? In your posistion I would be suspicious and from this description of the current owner, its a vehicle something that has possibly been uncared for.

Maybe take vehicle on a test drive, listen for the fan kicking in if it does at all or look for any warning lights, if you get the opportuinity to get vehicle in the air, please do to look for signs of leaks/damaged pipes or previous repairs.

You have two real choices IMO

If you suspect there is a problem it could be an easy fix dependent on the results of test drive/suggestion of perhaps a reason why it is being topped up every few weeks.
Therefore you have the potential to get a decent bargain as there is obvious price movement, providing you understand you may have to spend a bit to put a potential problem right

The other choice is to simply walk away and wait for a better one to come along :)

Get a compression test done and run the engine until the fan comes on (if it does!). Check the water pump for leaks and ask for proof that the cambelt has been changed. Look at the inner pot joint gaiters to see if they're leaking (I'm guessing it's an S or SX, 1100).

60,000 miles on a car not owned by an enthusiast is the time lots of stuff starts to fail/wear out so be very careful.

Good price for a schumi but wudve paid that little bit more for one that isnt a cat d and has a service history

Watch out for potential rust on the aftermarket panels that may have been fitted to this

I would have avoided this one IMO

For the money, (n)

Disagree on that, at the current price it is at (£800+) and for the miles and the new MOT think its a bargain.

Its obv only an SX but is the 1108 so same sporting engine but obv loose out on all the standard sporting equipment.

Would ask about previous MOT's and if theres any history with this, i suspect that it is also out of tax and overall is a fairly poor ebay advert

have spoken with this guy and have since dicounted it
he wanted £900 plus 6 months tax wich is ok thought it was a bargin, i can live with out the sporting features but did want a rev2.

he has no service history and wanted a £200 deposit i was prepared to pay £50 but not 200 might wait for the auction to end and see how it goes.....

i like this one it has the same birthday as me, no a reason to buy a car i know

well what a waste of time!!! took a 300 mile round trip today to fetch the car.

he neglected to tell me it had been in an accident, form the out side it looked ok but when we went to check the boot for rust there was a very poorly welded seam, you could see daylight through it in some places!!!!!

other half wasnt to happy i can tell you. So we walked away and now i have bad ebay feedback for apparently haggling what a W******
