As my wee rollerskate can generate a fair bit of cornering G’s and holding on isn’t as fun as it might be, I thought I’d start 2026 off by upgrading the std thrones to bucket seats.
I could have drilled the pins out of the tilt hinge but I want to keep the option of using my original seats (for now anyway) so I got a pair of Ricambio’s Front Seat Runner Assemblies for the new chairs. With no references that I could find here or on the web generally, designing the mounts between the seats and runners was surprisingly complex. I made a mock-up in wood which helped get most of the ideas to fruition but the end result looks ridiculously simple so why I took me so much time and effort to get there - I don’t know😆. I will tart them up with some satin black but gonna take for test drive first, results tbc.
The seats are “BB1 classic clubman” which come with their own runners, and I’ve found using the Ricambio/Fiat runners to get an approximate position and then using the BB for finer (and a lot easier) adjustment works well in combo. Just sitting in the car though, the seats feel great. But I have an issue with my inertia reel belts as they bind between the seats and pillar, so a sub-project is to follow. Any ideas on that matter gratefully received as it’s not obvious to me atm.

Aw man, you should’ve searched the forum. I would’ve helped out. I did this exact mod a few months back and we both came to the same conclusions. I still need to put the rubber pads on mine though 😬

Looks great!

Oh - for god sake 😂. I did search here there and everywhere but some how I didn’t find your post 🙄. I could have saved loads of time but what can you do?! Anyway I’m also very pleased to see you came to the same conclusion! Looks like you’ve gone for a superior all-steel welded setup, looks superb. Mine are 15mm alloy block, 40mm high, 335 Long … I’m curious if your dimensions are exactly the same 🤔. I used stainless steel bar that I had lying around to bridge across.

After a bit of head scratching sat in the back seat 😳 I’ve come up with something for the seatbelt dilemma I have between the B pillar and the seat and best of all it’s very simple. It involves turning the seatbelt guide 90°. I did a mockup and it works very smoothly when sat in the front and unreeling the belt. So just ordered a bracket kit from eBay that looks perfect and costs very little. Looking forward now to installing these and trying out seats and belts on the road - once the ice and salt are definitely washed away!

Those seats look a good option, I am considering after market seats but they need to be decent quality, are these seats very tight on the width as it looks like you will sit into these.

Hahaha. No worries. I think I probably posted most of the in progress on the car's instagram, so I don't know how much detail I went into here. Mine is wildly over-engineered steel, only because that's all I could weld with my little FCAW setup. I imagine the dimensions are pretty close, since I also picked up extra seat rails from Ricambio as well. I didn't feel like deconstructing my original seats, and that seemed like a much easier proposition.

Where'd you get the rubber pads?

Where'd you get the rubber pads?

Seeing as you're in the 'States,
MrFiat.com in the U.S. lists seat frame rubbers for the Fiat 500/600, or you might find suitable rubber pads on the Mc Master-Carr w/site (I searched under 'Bumper Cushions' or 'Adhesive-Back Bumpers').

I got mine from Ricambi/ebay but probably not worth your while getting such a low value item shipped from the UK. They look up to the job though. I pop-riveted them on as I didn’t have a pan-headed screw that wouldn’t sit proud of the rubber.

Ideally you need to go and ‘test sit’ seats before buying. I’ve attached the dimensions though. The supplier of mine, Bad Boy Classics, are in Luton, an hour and a half away but worth the drive to see if they were comfy and check on the quality. They are snug but that’s what I wanted, but I still find them comfy. Quality looks very good but time will tell. They come with adjustable seat runners which are very good quality and heavier grade steel vs the Ricambio Fiat replicas that go underneath these.

Did you make any sketches or keep the dimensions as this would be very helpful as i intend to use these seats and the subframe as you have.

I'm not exactly a fan of MrFiat and his ridiculous prices (and not certain the originals would work on my custom brackets), so I think I'll just measure my bracket profile and print some up in TPU that slip right on.

Passenger side all done, just need to paint the driver side subframe now. Very pleased with the seats but the thing I’m even happier about is the seat belt guide because just turning it 90 degrees has transformed the belts safety and usability.
