OK fitted my new CD player. but when i switch off my ignition all the stations i saved are wiped, i heard somewhere that you have to change one wire on the iso connection but i'm not sure which one,On the radio i have a 12v (red)Power antenna(orange and white)Memory (orange) and earth (black), and on the brava i have 12v(red)earth (black)switch on voltage (orange) and instrument lighting( yellow/black) now i'm thinking that if i put the orange memory wire into the red 12v then it should be ok, if i just change the orange and red leads around it should be fine, i'm asking because i don't want to screw it up, looked at the bravo guide and it was a big help but just need this last bit of info, please

Normally your radio will have connectors in the middle of red and yellow wires. Swap these over. I cant remember what orange is, i'm sure its something daft like mobile phone???

But yeah, swap the red and yellow and it should work.

Re: Re: New Radio, need help with one more thing

Cheers mate, so i swap the YELLOW/BLACK wire(Radio Lighting Feed) with the RED wire( Permanent Feed )and then all should be ok, just to make sure.

on the bravo guide it says this about the wires in case bravo's are different from brava's

Orange - Feed From Ignition (only on when Ignition is on)
Yellow / Black - Radio Lighting Feed
Red wire -Permanent Feed
Black wire - Earth

it's just that the ornage is a feed from ignition and not mobile or anything, maybe it's not important, just checking

Re: Re: Re: New Radio, need help with one more thing

i was talking about the wires on the head unit. you should not need to swap the wires in the car and the radio wires should have connectors so you can just swap them over.

If you want to check you want to swap the permenant feed (red?) with the feed which switches with the ignition (yellow?). Ie 12v when ignition on and 0v when ignition off.

You can test these by connecting from each of them to earth with a multimeter.

Re: Re: Re: Re: New Radio, need help with one more thing

Cheers again mate, like i said the bravo guide says the ignition feed is orange and the radio lighting is yellow, i'm not sure wether to swap the yellow with the red as you said or swap the orange with the red as the guide says, when i turn off my ignitiion the radio goes off so i know for a fact that i have to swap the ignition with the permanent i just don't know if the ignition is yellow or orange, not very good with electrics so i'll just have to do a trial and error job. hopefully i'll get it right first time and not do any damage.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: New Radio, need help with one more thing

checked the bravo guide again to make sure and they say orange wire is the ignition feed, do you own a bravo or a brava mate, i own a brava, maybe the wiring is different in them.will i do any damage if i connect the wrong wire here or will the radio just not work.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: New Radio, need help with one more thing

i own a bravo. As i say i am referring to my panasonic head unit wiring and not the cars. I doubt it will damage it if it is wrong. If you have a mulitmeter then try that, else can you get hold of a 12v bulb and some wires? that would prove it.

Connect the red to black or red to anything metal. If this is the permenant then the bulb will be lit no matter what you do with the key.

Connect the yellow (or whatever) and the black/earth to the bulb. When the ignition is off the bulb should be out, when the ignition is on the bulb should be on.

Someone may pick me up on a technicality here but mine is something like this:

the square connectors are the iso connectors between teh car and head unit. The < > shaped ones are in-line between the power connector and the head unit. i swapped these two over to solve the problem on my car. hope this helps.

Cut the orange wire at the plug ON YOUR RADIO then join it to the red wire on the same plug. Don't touch the car wiring. (First check your wiring instructions for your stereo, as on some makes you just need to change the position of the fuse on the back of the set)

Cheers Mate, Iv'e got it now, your diagram clinched it. chnaged the in-line connectors round and it's storing fine now, works perfect, just for the record though it was Red and orange that i swaped and not Red and yellow, so maybe there are differences in the brava/bravo after all,or maybe it's a mark1 mark2 thing, anyways mate thanks for the info, worked a treat.

Re: Re: New Radio, need help with one more thing

if you changed the inline connectors on the head unit's wiring then it would be a difference in head unit manufacturers wiring. Mine is panasonic, i think kenoww work the same as panasonic, i dont know about anyone else.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: New Radio, need help with one more thing

Doh!
Just seen your wiring diagram. Don't connect the yellow wire to the plug, join it to the red wire. This gives you permanent live to your set. If you left the yellow joined up as well, you would have your ignition on all the time! (Been there, done that, got the T-shirt.)

Don't forget to do this standing on your head with your index finger of your right hand stuck in your left ear, this always helps ;)
