Is it worth being tuned?
I believe the engine in the Panda has less torque than the Doblo etc because the transmission in the Panda can't handle the extra torque.
There have been 3 reviews in the last couple of months of Diesel Car magazine. Well worth a read.

could you link to that intersting reading??

and how i just hate when people say "is it worth being tuned?" that pisses me off, not everyone have the money to start out buying a GTA and begin tuning that!

you are right the panda has less tourqe than all other fiat cars with the same engine.
all others: 70hp 4000rpm / 170nm 1750rpm
panda: 70hp 4000rpm / 145nm 1500rpm

do you have any info on tuned panda`s and seen cracking gearboxes?

then i would like to know, before i breake mine!

thanks mate.

Unfortunately it's in Diesel Car magazine, they have a website but it's not on there yet. I suppose whoever did it for you would have the same facts about the engine/ transmission as is available to others.

every contact i have does not have any idear how the transmission will cope with extre hp...
at what hp and NM did the panda transmission begin to fail?

The transmission never failed but FIAT would have put the limit on the engine knowing that the clutch/ gearbox etc wouldn't be able to handle the extra torque over extended use.
You could always get in touch with FIAT themselves to ask why it the Multijet is "detuned" in the Panda.

I have just had a look at the website bilgalleri but unfortunately I can't understand it, I shall try & get it translated into English.

why do you need to understand bilgalleri?
thats only a link to my personal cars!

no info regarding tuning is to be found there!

Diesel Car April 2005
The torque inthe Panda had to be electronically plateaued so the standard five speed gearbox could cope.
What it means in practice is that you can never over-rev it to the point of raucousness. To emphasise the point, there's no redline on the revcounter. It revs like a petrol all the way to 5,000rpm & just stays there until you change up.

Diesel Car March 2005
The biggest disappointment is that this variation on the Multijet delivers only 107lb ft. 20% less than the Punto. According to FIAT, the shortfall is explained by the bigger cars beefier transmission.

As for the website, I was looking at the forum part of it.

if you need any danish translated into english im your man ;)

okey so it is to limmit the tourqe to the gearbox and they didnt reinforce the gearbox because fiat didnt think that it would need more because of the relevetive low ratios?
0-100km/h
Punto 1,3mjet = 13,7sek
panda 1,3mjet = 13,0sek (with Gtec mesurement in my panda 13,3sek)

I ordered my Panda 4x4 back in February and as a result of the dealer making a mess of the order will probably have to wait until July for delivery. Totally lost interest in having the car now.

I've had 2 new Fiats now & the dealers made a mess of both the orders but I ended up with a better spec for the same price, that is metallic paint & reversing sensors.
Hopefully the same will happen with you.

Fret not Mr Doc,

In Kuala Lumpur, people are queing for newly launched cars.
It's quite normal here for buyers to wait around 6-months before they could get hold of their ordered cars. Sometimes it would stretch up to 8-months of waiting period due to the overwhelming demand for city cars - esp Jap and Korean marques. BTW, Fiat fans could get their cars in just a week's time here - Thanx to low demand. ;)

when we ordered the panda originally, the mrs went for teseo blue, very nice, then after a week she changed her mind and wanted sparkling blue, now bearing in mind we had already done the paperwork, paid the deposit etc etc, thames fiat were very understanding and accomodating and changed the order, and no delay, in fact we asked for the car to be ready for after march 2004, so could have an 04 plate
