Hi all!

New here so thought I would drop a quick line & say hi. I found out about this place while trawling through eBay looking for nothing in particular for Boo.

Boo is a 96/N reg Barchetta that I came across about 3 years ago. I bought it cheap with the intention of turning it around & making a few quid quickly, but I made the fatal error of driving it for a few weeks! Suffice it to say Boo is now a permanent fixture!

Finally getting around to putting Boo back on the road after a year in dry storage, so will no doubt be on here picking up ideas etc as I add to the anticipated list of jobs that will need doing over the coming weeks & months. Jobs that I can remember include finding a new downpipe as the flexi bit on the original has split, an ABS light that comes on every time I go above 60-70mph & the obligatory leaky washer bottle - At least the split seems to be in the top of the bottle!!!

By the way, I went to get an insurace quote from More Than who insured the car with no problems when Boo was last on the road, only to be told that they wouldn't cover the car because it wasn't a UK car. Have since found this out with various other companies too, even though it's not modified & as far as I can tell is identical to a UK spec car of the same vintage. Anyone else had this &/or knows of a good company?

Anyway, I look forward to speaking to you all in the coming weeks & months.

Cheers,

Gordon.

Hi Gordon,

I use Frizzell, part of Liverpool Victoria and they have been both efficient and quite reasonable. If you do a search on this forum, I know there have been other postings about insurance as the price can range quite a bit.

Cheers,

Kerry

Hi Gordon welcome to the site, I just called admiral this morning re multi car as I have 4 to insure this year, My barchetta is an italian import (ok yes ain't they all :) ) and the single quote was £270 fully comp. The total was £808 for all 4 cars fully comp inc the Barchetta, 735BMW & two panda's.

Anyway any questions fill your boots, there is a good knowledgeable community here and very helpfull.

Hello and welcome Gordon (y)

Downpipe is an easy job that should only take you an hour or so. The downpipe can be found:

shop around a bit, but it should be around £80 -£120. Dont forget you will need the two gaskets.

The ABS problem could be the wheel sensors playing up. Clean the sensors on each wheel as well as the ABS sensor teeth on the bearings. Also check the distance on the sensor from the teeth.

Hope this help

Welcome mate.

My insurance is up soon, needless to say I will have a happy time "shopping around"!

I had a problem with the ABS light coming on. As Doc said, I cleaned the ABS sensors and it soon stoped lighting up.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Will definitely have to check out Admiral for the insurance. & Thanks for the downpipe link. Was thinking of splashing out & going for a complete stainless system from DTR - Only thing is, I can't remember if any part of my current system is stainless or not. One of the problems with having the car stored for a year, & the place it's being stored being a good 60 miles away!!!

Next time I go & see Boo I'll have to take a wire brush & attack those sensors too!

Really looking forward to getting Boo back on the road. Really missed not being able to go topless last summer!

Gordon!
