Morning,
I would like peoples views and comments with what you would do if you was/are in this situation on the following jobs that are coming up in my workplace.

In the below I'm going to comment asif I've been lucky and offered both jobs and I have to make a dessision on which to take... (both internal vacancies)

# job number one;
Completly different job role than current, I know bits and bobs (no problem with the job role.) allot more pay... however the current team is all females. :)thumb: 'great' your thinking) but I have to think long term and ask can I work with a team of 5 females 5 days a week in small office? what effect is this going to have in not having a guy to talk about cars, girls, games etc etc.

#job number two;
I already do this job role, they are making it a department in its own and will include allot more duties,it will be in a team of (4 below the managers) pay not discussed yet but with the proposed job description i assume will be more than current. (based on the pay grading/job requirments 2014)

these are my concerns.

- job #1 is female company 5 days out of 7. can I work with female company all long term?
- job number two is not yet advertised but is planned to be on the wall within the next two weeks. I don't want to be getting under either managers skin if i choose to acept their vacancie and then decide to go for the other (if offered)

as far as I'm aware both jobs will be a big increase in pay (#job 2 not confirmed) so I am aiming to apply for both, for financal reasons and job preferences. but as above #1 job concerns me long term and upsetting a manager on either side bothers me as I get along with them both well!

I'm sorry If this does'nt make sence (n) comments and views please!

What a lovely dilemma.

First, decide which job you'd like best.
If it is #2 , give that priority, but try not to lose the option of #1 until you've got job #2 .

If it is #1 , job great, but just reservations about the girls, it would depend on the girls themselves.
Some women work well, with just gentle gossip.
Some gossip more than work.
Do you think you may be at risk of physical attack, or constant **ss taking?
How will they feel with a guy in the office, as it may curtail some of their conversations.
Would you be able to work, or would you get little done due to the distractions?

So what do you know about them in their environment?
How can you find out?
Do you have an excuse to visit their office at random times, to arrive and catch a bit of their conversations, or if there were any at all?
Could you just ask them how they'd feel about working with you if you applied for the job?

My limited experience is that the women I've worked with have created a much nicer environment than the men.

Just a few thoughts, may just make things worse.

Good luck.

@jatkinson my current job is being moved around in a big 're-structure' of the work place so staying where I am in this dept isn't really an option!
@portland_bill thanks for your views, with regarding to the 'physical attack' lol I don't think that will happen, its more not having somebody in work to talk about 'guy stuff' I get along with them all in their office and often in there once or twice a week to help out with something. like for example last week I was putting shelving up in their storage room because and I quote them 'we're ladies we can't do that stuff'!

I already know from present colleagues on different dept's that they quite like the idea of having male company in the office. I guess it calms the bitchiness hahaa!
I've got a week to decide on what I'm going to do with regards to job #1

thanks again

I'd stick out for job No2, an office full of women is 24/7 bitchiness. Might be OK to start with, but once they get going......

The girls will also be stifled in talking about girl stuff (or not) and you'll not have a problem in talking guy stuff as they can talk that too.
And they will, talk all day long.
Natter, chat, discuss, orate, converse, waffle - they will never shut up.

go for door #2

You have really mentioned pay rise in terms of % increase.

It's hard to judge, most of us are working because it pays!!!

Any job is worth doing if it pays well enough!

Also what industry is this? So someone within the industry could give a bit more insight.

I remember the times I had to work in all-female environment.
Bunch of nagging banshees arguing about non-existing issues.
It was hell.

I remember the times I had to work in all-male environment.
Bunch of competitive d*ck-measuring idiots arguing about non-existing issues.
It was hell.

And I do not mention the nasty coffee from the machine...

I went freelance.
I remember I hardly ever changed from my pajamas before lunchtime.

Now I must.
It would look silly if I brought my daughter to school and my son to kindergarten wearing a pair of pajamas.

So it goes.

@ycming job 1 with the ladies would be an increase of 7k per year so quiet abit even after tax and NI.
job 2 has still not been released.. I don't get how they want us to put our names forward for a job we don't know the pay for!

and I work in a Zoo :') not with animals though. Currently the admin side of customer services. eg; complaints and Animal experiences.

I've had a few animal experiences but they weren't legal.

"Work in a zoo", yeah right, you're the show monkey. ;)

As the only one who has any experience of a Zoo job - my cousin worked at Bristol Zoo 40 years ago but now for Travis Perkins - I call upon you to relate some amusing tales of Zoo life. Maybe the day the lion got into the monkey house and ate a baboon or perhaps an elephant crapped on a VIP? I assume you aren't involved in deep stuff like getting pandas to mate - how DO they film the panda porn they show them, perhaps MEP can help here - but there surely must be many amusing anecdotes to tell!
