hi all

ive just bought myself a little cinquecento for the princely sum of 100 quid, its a 1995 m and im not too sure what model it is (sx i think). there is a little story to it, basically the lady that owned it has just taken it in to her local garage and had the clutch and the exhaust replaced and when she took it to the garage the car was running albeit with a slipping clutch and when the work was done she went to pick it up and it would not start, it does turn over but thats it. Im wondering if the car has an immobiliser but i did ask if she had a red key and she says not just a black one or the other thing i thought was maybe they didnt connect something back on correctly?. Any help would be greatly appreiciated

cheers

hi all

thanks for the replies, in answer to the final post its not from ebay, i came across it whilst i was on my way home from oldham and it was advertised for 175 but i rang and offered 100 and she accepted it (didnt think it was bad considering it has new clutch, exhaust and its T&T'd till september) just wondering how hard is it to do the crankshaft sensor and how much for one?. I was thinking about tipping a bit of fuel down the throttle and trying that.

Well, if it's the crankshaft sensor, fuel down the TB won't help as there will be no spark, ergo, if it does start, it ain't the crank sensor!

Makes sense to run through all the checks before spending money.

You can get one from a scrappy for a fiver or so, maybe 20 new. Fits on a little bracket next to the crank on the driver's side.

okay i will have a look for it, is it possible that it could have been disconnected/damaged when they did the clutch??

hmmm it couldn't off, it is not on the gear box side.

Is one selling on e-bay for like 15 quid for an 899.

Could this be the starter motor ?? As i had similar problems in my last cinq.

hi all

ive towed the car home tonight and checked all the things i can think of. its definately got fuel and a spark so does that rule out the crankshaft sensor?. i did notice the plugs were filthy also 3 different makes of plugs i cleaned them a bit but still no joy  any ideas??

i can see the fuel in the throttle body and the thing i forgot to mention is when you turn it over it makes a thudding sound i cant describe what i mean properly but its like its compressing the fuel/air but not igniting it and it stinks of fuel after a few seconds too

yeah will do i need to charge the battery up now its flat after todays efforts lol. do you think its worth changing out the plugs and leads anyway? and i was looking in the manual for the car and it says something about a code for the ignition but the injector light doesnt stay on for 8 seconds so i dont think its got an immobiliser but im not certain

The immobilser light is a key light in orange.

Juts a thought, they might have removed the coil pack to make the clutch job easier. If they haven't put the leads on the right way round then you would get a thud back through the TB.

Try starting it with the TB uncovered. Don't look in, because if I'm right, flames will be popping out the top.

Cheers

yeah i did take it off briefly and tryed to start it but still nothing, i was a bit confused with the lead order because on the block it says 1-3-2-4 (i think) but on the coil mounts it says 3-2-1-4 (again going from memory but im a bit useless lol) so i wasnt sure which way they need to be?

hi all

ill recheck them tomorrow (just got back from surrey so im knackered lol) im sure i followed the order on the coils correctly but in the head do you just put the leads on 1-2-3-4 or do you put them on in the 1-3-2-4 order on the block (sounds daft but you never know)
