I hope you mean give up on buying a quick car because of insurance.. and not just giving up on insuring it..

lol givin up on insurance  neh jst mayb finding a suitable alternative like a 1.4 furio or 1.4 106 quicksilver?

I had a VTR at 18 and my insruance was near on a grand... I'm a girl and had been driving since I was 17 but had 2 yrs NCB at that point in time.... (work that one out)

It all depends on how much you're willing to pay.. I've always paid high premiums... cause I love faster cars... everytime it drops to under 1k it's time to upgrade the power :D

well i paid 1200 for my 1.2 punto on me mums insurance n i reckon il get 800 for it so surely cnt b more than 2 grand till the end of the policy can it

i insured my punto not long ago for a year for 1200 and being as im not tht far through the policy wen i get my new car hopefully the money i get from my old car will cover the increase in insurance :bang:

Maybe, but then where do you find the money for your new car? As you will be using most of the money from your old car to cover the hike in insurance.

Insurance for a high group car could be well over £2,000. I've had quotes over £5,000 for insuring some cars. Also a company who gives a nice quote for a low-risk car might not insure a high-risk at all. Best to get quotes before you think of buying.

Exactly... before I bought my VTR i had a 1.4 Corsa and Direct Line (who insured the corsa) wouldn't insure me on the VTR... also they told me that I had to be over 21 so there are age limits in place with some insurance companies, I had the same issue trying to insure my Civic I had to be over 25 with a lot of companies..

Surely if your mum is willing to use her ncd then insurance isn't really going to be a killer?

It's a bit difficult to compare quotes for girls with those for lads, the difference is absolutely shocking! when i was shopping around for my siecento sporting just after i passed was £1.8k! baring in mind that was the cheapest with no mods i had no choice.

it depends on what your looking for & how much you can afford, but diesel is maybe the best way to go. I've got a 1.9 Stilo JTD & my friend has a 306 2.0 HDI, both very quick cars that are around insurance group 5. mine cost £5k to buy, his £3k. maybe something to think about

I've just bought a 2.0 diesel and its only £150 extra compared with the punto, and thats with only a years no claims bonus.

Try Quinn-Direct.co.uk - cheap and you can also drive any car (other than 4x4's and vans) aslong as its insured by someone else (ie. you can drive your parents, girlfriends, mates car).
