Technical New cambelt fitted

Hi all,
got a new cambelt,tensioner,and water pump fitted last week to my punto mk2b.
now when i rev the engine it is making a whining noise,
any ideas what this could be?

Belt too tight?

You've not said which engine..

So Not a floating tensioner.. But a fixed one

I'd say so. If not a spring loaded automatic type, then you've got to know what you're doing if it's to be tensioned correctly. Overtensioned belts typically give off a whining noise in protest. Needs fixing or water pump &/or tensioner bearings are likely to fail prematurely.

The correct tension is when on the largest side of belt between two points (camshaft pulley and water pump to this model) you can twist the belt 90 degrees, holding it with 2 fingers while twisting.
