Right guys and gals. My Cinq has got 15's on it but still got the standard brakes.so its sorta like a tank to stop and its slowly getting worse.now the caliper is a rusty old thing but the disks are still quite new(well look it anyway). also if i park on a hill facing up and put the handbrake on all the way 2 the top it will roll back.

now im guessing this because of rear brakes?

what i was thinking of doing was getting some punto gt brakes and calipers for the front.

is this a good idea? also if any1 could advise me bout how to get it stop rolling backwards on a hill be much appreacted.

cheers Rich

was serviced bout 2month ago when had full service.now wondering if they didn't do them. hmm

Or didn't do them properly. Also the Cinq and Sei use funny little pivoted arms which tend to seize up and render the handbrakes inefective.

It's all pretty much covered in the Haynes manual.

The punto brakes are a regular choice and a good idea.

Just done my drums.

New:

Cable - £20 fiat
Drums - £30 Shop4 parts
Backplates - £40 fiat
Shoes - £10 Shop4 parts
Pistons - £12 fiat
Linkages - £12 fiat

Haven't had it out for a proper blast yet, but it's gone from super **** to super strong. Wouldn't stop the car at walking pace before, but it now locks them up at a fair pace. I know it's silly, but it's such a novelty. :p

Rough prices and it took 3-5 hours to do it all.

I'll get the MOT reading this week.

It was a bitch, but i'm used to MC disk brakes.

Umm, Thinking of what i found.

~You need a feck of huge torque wrench / breaker bar as the hubs are at about 215NM and it makes it A LOT easier if you remove the hubs to fit the shoes. + the correct sized 20+mm socket.

~Back plates arn't needed, but the area where the handbrake lever pivots can wear the hole. If you're spending £££ i'd fit new back plates.

~Putting shoes on is a bitch and you need two sets of hands. Pust the springs on the shoes and lever the shoes onto the back plate.

~Make sure you get cylinders with groves on the pistons. Fiat gave me strange /plain ones so i swapped parts around.

~Doing the cable is a two person job, or a lot of hassle getting up and down. Have a look at the old threads about the 899 / 1108 cables. I used one with a single adjuster.

Most of the time was taken up by the first drum. Not being sure how to do it and leaving the springs off....

Well worth the afternoons work though.

It is a bitch, and I actually had to do it alone. And I have really weak arms. But I found the trick to put the springs on the shoes with a specially self made tool. You take an old flat screwdriver (long one) and make a small hole with a metal saw, so that the tip of the screwdriver looks like:

Code:
-----------
            |
         ---
        |
         ---
            |
-----------

The hole has to be deep and wide enough to hold the spring. Then instead of pulling the spring onto the whole with pliers, you just push it into the hole with this tool. Requires a little bit of a patience and practice, but can be done by one person.

With this tool you don't need to do that. Removing the hubs is unnecessary mess.

I was fighting with my shoes for three hours because I was trying to put them on upside down (left on the right side of the plate and vice versa). Stupid me... :D

Cheers,

Woj
