Hi all,

My girlfriend ordered a new 500 back in December and is due to pick it up on monday. We went down to the garage for her to sign some paperwork on saturday, found that the car that is due to be hers but it is not the colour we expected!

From the start, my mrs wanted the metallic/pearlescent orange paint as I've found in the member's gallery:- (This is where I would put a url but I can't until I've done 5 posts) See Nouvo500's car in the gallery...

So, she went on to the fiat website and chose a configuration for her fiat 500, choosing ragamuffin red as it came up showing it as orange and a hefty price tag. (insert url here grrr)

We then went to the dealer's where we had a good look through the swatches with the sales guy and found Ragamuffin red, which was presented as the burnt orange pearlescent paint. It said on the back "Ragamuffin Red colour code 164". Perfect we thought, that's the colour and so, placed the order.

So imagine our disbelief when we turned up yesterday and found the car with her registration place and all the right trimmings but in a bright red colour!!

We had a good long talk with the manager who is talking to Fiat monday morning to see what has happened.

Can anyone give us some advice, what colour is that orange if it is not Ragamuffin Red?? It seems that both the website and the dealership have completely mislead us. If the car that is sat at the dealership is the true "Ragamuffin Red" then it certainly doesn't look like £700 paint! She won't be taking it home in that colour that's for sure...

On a final not I found after trawling the internet some 500 colours (on the singapore website!). Shows an orange (calypso) is this the colour we've been after???!

The raggamuffin red is what you want
Under bright light it can look like this

The only other red currently in production is Pasadoble red which is this

Yeah if it came as raggamuffin red you'll be fine. When i went to order mine they had a raggamuffin outside which was a burnt orange colour and another inside which looked a lot more red. Just make sure it is raggamuffin and not just the Pasadoble red.

Yeah :) If the colour is a solid colour it's pasadoble, if the colour looks even faintly metallic/pearlescent then it's raggamuffin red

Yes! Unfortunately it is a discontinued colour.

This is the car that nuova500 (Barry) used to own which is the colour that you wanted but it is a solid colour, not metallic or pearlescent.

Not so fast Tony,

The OP wanted the pearlescent colour, Calypso was only metallic IIRC and Raggamuffin is pearlescent.

Daniel, you may be corrrect but the OP stated, and I quote,

"From the start, my mrs wanted the metallic/pearlescent orange paint as I've found in the member's gallery" and "See Nouvo500's car in the gallery"

Barry's car is Calypso Orange, more recently renamed as Booklady Orange, lol.

I assumed that Barry's car was the colour the OP wanted but he mistakenly assumed that it was a metallic/pearlescent paint.

Perhaps when Chris comes back he can explain exactly how it transpired.

Nonetheless, even if he chose Ragamuffin Red and paid the £700 premium he has still had the wrong colour delivered if it is actually Pasodoble Red that has been delivered.

yeah it really didn't look pearlescent, but then the sun wasn't shining that bright when we looked at it... it certainly didn't have that orange tinge that you can see in the pic of Elle Macpherson's.

The garage is going to let us know tomorrow what the score is... the way we see it is we have maybe 3 options,

A. We take the car as it is and recieves a hefty discount (10-15%)
B. They get the car resprayed.
C. We get to choose another colour and have the price adjusted accordingly... (Carole really doesn't want a red car!!)

Thanks for all the replies, will post an update tomorrow...

Well you should have been able to see one way or another. Ragamuffin with look pearlescent or metallicish whereas pasadoble is a solid colour. Beaing pearlescent it can vary in colour from anything from the pic with Elle to the one I posted above and can even look different to that.

Assuming it *is* the right colour, forget all three.

Assuming it's the wrong colour, likely to be small discount, reorder or leave it. See all the other threads on issues like this. :)

i dont see any of those top 2 options being too relaistic
it all hinges on if the car is the colour you selected
if it is but its not the colour you thought it was then its a bit of a sticky one

Wouldn't the paint code be included as a part of the VIN number, or as a sticker on the door jamb? That way you should be able to determine if it is in fact the wrong color.

Bottom line is if the car is the colour on the order form that you signed then the dealer has fullfilled their part of the deal and does not have to do a thing.

If the dealer has ordered the wrong colour they will re-order for you, and offer some form of compensation.

The dealer could probably sell your car to another buyer quite quickly (mine already has someone lined up if I change my mind!) so if it is the colour you ordered you're unlikely the get much in the way of a discount - take it or leave it I'd imagine :/

A lot of people seem to disregard this when thinking about what they're going to get the dealer to do if something is not as ordered or not as you thought it was going to be. If they were going to have the car sitting there for 6 months not doing anything they'd do a deal, but as it stands they could sell it within a week easily.

The 500 that was delivered to our Stealer in December is still sitting in the showroom looking very sorry for itself.

IMO It depends on how it was configed as to how easy it will sell.

Dealers like to have a car sitting around though so they might not actually be looking to sell it.
