Panda (Classic) Never Say No To Panda (Conservation Project)

Introduction

Hi everyone, I'm a Newbie to the Forum and a Newbie to the joys of owning a classic Panda 4x4 however, with the help of a few good friends we've bought a project and look forward to keeping regular update on this thread.

Looking forward to the coming weeks, months and years and the adventures that follow .....

First image of what is likely to be an exciting project early 2016 !
It's fixed! (See Giuseppe thread)

Thanks again to everyone who made suggestions to help diagnose the problem. - Let's not go into what the mechanic responsible for this job may or may not have done. No point crying over spilled milk, playing the blame game, pointing the finger or exposing him to public humiliation, just for his rank stupidity. - For there's no fun in that!

Is there?

Let's just say that a lot of spare ignition parts that were on aquamarine's shelf 'just in case' are now tested and known to be in fine condition too.

So that's all good then.

Excellent news. Thanks for letting me use the Pony Panda Testing Rig too. Come on, spill the beans.. what was it?..

I'll agree on the first point but not too sure about the second, but we are gaining experience..

So, with many miles to cover this weekend I thought it would be prudent to just check how the Pony Panda feels on a motorway after nine years away from them..

The first half mile went really well. - Accelerated smoothly up to an indicated 80mph, quiet (ish), stable and not pulling left or right through the steering. Great!

Then the engine stopped, I was recovered home and from the reading on the compression tester (zero) it looks like the head gasket has gone..

Back on the spanners.

Very sorry to hear of the issues Andy, but you are the right man for the job. Let me know if you want an engine, it's probably quicker than replacing the head gasket. You can pick one up on your way back from the meet, although I won't be able to give you a lift in with it - stupid flippin' backs, who's idea was it to put disks in them anyway

Water pump turns but is a bit stiff, tensioner pulley feels smooth and belt looks okay (apart from having two ends now), so my theory is that although pump bearing was up to dodging about locally, sustained high rpm on the motorway caused it to overheat and partially seize, snapping the belt.

Anyone any better theories..? - Trolls/voodoo curse..?
