ive got my two neons under my footwells, theyre powered to the back of the cigarette lighter light thingy that wimmy suggested. all i wanna know is would it matter if i had loads of things all connected to the same bit, as in my eyes the power comes from the same battery anyway,

so eg. could i wire 10 neons to the same bit.

please only answer if ya know for sure, as i really dont wanna blow anything.,

cheers in advance ppl,

matty :)

Hi,

Ive got my neons installed using the cigarette lighter mod method - bascially what I would say is that get a direct line from the battery and fuse that.

If you want to install 10 neons running off the same wire from the cigarrete lighter, you need to find the fuse rating thats sitting between that wire. Look in the hand book under fuses. It should tell you about interior lighting. Anything over 10 ampres should be fine.

BTW neons draw so little current they are very efficient.

cheers john mate, a sound bit of advice there,
im planning on lighting up my interior a little more, as i dont really notice my footwells anymore i got used to them, thinking about doing something with the plastic cover that goes over the gear lever and handbrake, might get 2 neons running either side or some of them neon bendy tubes, then again might get a black light, theres no many things!!

cheers again m8,
matty

have you got any pics?

of your foot wells lit up with the neon's?

what colour are they?

Re:Re: neon question (electrical

You can run a new wire from the battery
fused battery end onto a relay then to your neons and the cigarett lighter as the switching wire that way all the main power is from thr battery.

Re: Re:Re: neon question (electrical

i agree with trev. Normally the actual cigarette lighter is rated at about 1 amp, but did you say you were running yours from the light which illuminates the cigarette lighter when the head lights are on? If so this will come from the fuse that controls all the panel lights. I would imagine this would be fairly closely rated to what your bulbs draw. Therefore if you were going to be running lots of neons i would do as trev says and use the lighter to switch a relay and pull the power from the battery.

Also to reduce wiring i would run a wire from the +ve of the battery to the neons, out the neons to the relay, out the relay to earth. That way you can put your switching wire from the lighter to the relay, then out the relay and connect directly to the -ve wire which you already have running to earth.

If that makes any sense at all.

Re:Re: Re:Re: neon

I do it in revers live to relay then light then earth
Or to make it easy take wire from battery via a fuse to a relay in the engine bay and use the side light wire for swiching. but remember the neons will be on all the time your side light are on as per cigarett lighter

Why dont you just fit a switch?
