Yup, another casualty to the stalk problem.

Headlights working fine just occasionally my indicators will not work. Knocks the hazards out at the same time.

Dangerous as far as I'm concerned so I'm wondering... anyone got a set of stalks lying around please?!

Ta!

Arse, just bought a set off ebay 5 mins ago! Ta anyway mate.

Is there a foolproof way of getting the stalks off without effecting my airbag? I really don't fancy seeing that diode come on.

Just done a search on the forums and have noticed procedure looks like:

- Straighten your steering wheel before you start to prevent yourself getting very irritated when you put it back on wonky afterwards

- Disconnect Battery and leave standing for 15 MINUTES

- Remove 2 screws from behind the airbag securing it to the steering wheel.

- Remove the connector (yellow wire) VERY carefully (its bloody fragile) from the back of the airbag itself (I used nose pliers for precision)

- Remove the shrouding from the steering column (3 screws I recall)

- Remove a couple of screws securing the stalk assembly and simply slide off the steering column.

- Place new stalk assembly on and replace as per removal.

-Voila!

When the airbag is reconnected and power restored I assume my airbag light should remain off?

That's more or less it mate yeah, I've actually justmailed wimmy a guide for it to stick in the repair section, I can send you a copy if you want ?
The airbag light should remain off once it's all connected and you connect the battery up again. Just to be safe though start the car from standing outside and reaching in the first time just in case of any mishaps !

You don't need pants for the victory dance

remember you need to take the steering wheel itself off before you can slide the stalks off! You need to unscrew a big nut to do this and can be quite stiff for the first time of removing the steering wheel. And you need to disconnect the wires that connect to the stalk!

If you've got a haynes manual it will help quite a bit! (Helped me loads. I'm a pro at changing stalks as I've done it twice in quick succsesion before)

Cheers guys. If you could email me that guide Gav I'd be ever so grateful!

Cheers! :)

@Smee I think its near the wiper motor.

@Ins I would strongly recommend removing the airbag fuse aswell. (Buch of fuses besides the steering column.

@ Sven - no offence taken ! @ Smee - my wipers have no intermittent or regular speed, they only go anywhere on the fastest setting. They did this before fitting the new stalk unit and they're still doing it now ! Gav
