hey guys and gals can any body tell me how i would no if my clutch is slipping and how i would no if my cambelt is on its way out

plus prices if anyone knows.

If your clutch is slipping, on acceleration the engine revs will suddenly increase out of sequence to the actual movement/speed of the car. Kind of like if you were accelerating and half depressed the clutch pedal. The car goes no faster but the revs shoot up.

cambelt can only be detected through visually checking it, and this is not a good indication. Unless it has been changed and is recorded in the service history. most cam belts are changed 50-70,000 miles. If in doubt then change it.
There are no signs of a cambelt going as regards driving the car. It will just break or sheer teeth. You can usually hear the tensioners when they start to wear out and sometimes a visual check of the belt can highlight wear.

to detect clutch slip it is often easiest to find a long fairly steep hill and try to go up it in 4th gear at about 30mph. if the revs rise and speed doesn't increase you have slipping. if the revs drop and the car stuggles up the hill then the clutch is fine.

when i inspect the timing belt i look for cracking, and i want to see square edged teeth on the belt, and i check that the belt inbetween the teeth does not look as though it has stretched.

think its a good time to point out that the auxilliary drive belt is ribbed, not toothed like the timing belt. on a ribbed belt it is perfectly normal to have cracking on the inside ribs of the belt, even a fairly new one will have cracks, but a toothed belt such as a timing belt should have no cracking at all.

thanks guys
stupid question i no but where is the cam belt so i can have a quick look?

looking at engine, you will notice a cover on left hand sided face of engine. all the belts alternator, power steering are in this region. behind the cover is the cambelt.
