Gearboxes are well known to fail on 1.2's, correct me if I'm wrong!

Cambelt and tensioners could cost you anything between £100-£200 at a rough estimate!

and where are you based...???

you can get a punto box for about 60 - 100 quid depending on the scrappy, and you can get a full belt kit including tensioner for 60 quid

depending on where you are i may be able to help, gearbox i can swap with my eyes closed and the cam belt aint that hard either!

andy are you the one who had or know about the 3 1.2 versions

i thought i had the best gearbox out of all the 1.2s

im based in west london how about you mate..

is the punt oa poorer version tho?? whats good about it

nah mate that would have been Dan

the gearbox is one of those luck of the draw things, you can drive like a granny and it goes, or like a hooligan and it wont, its one of those things!

the punto boxes benefits are that they are cheaper, easier to find, and the acceleration is better, not so great on motorways due to the shorter gearing, 70 mph is circa 4k rpm

im in kent on the thames eastury mate, so not a million miles away, if you get the parts im more than happy to help for some cash, but it will work out a hell of alot cheaper than a garage job

a local scrap yard charged me £400 a few year ago to fit a punto box, i can get a box and clutch for 130 and do it myself. the cambelt would cost you in the reigon of £120 ish from a garage and as i said you can get a gates belt kit and tensioner for £60

so instead of paying the best part of £600 if your lucky, you can get the parts for say 200 and then me some cash and bingo saved yourself just under half the cash there and then!!!

ill get a quote for the gearbox and fittign and get back to you

no proibs, but expect to have your trousers pulled down!!!

its can be done in an afternoon (old one off and new one on) so dont take any crap with labour times, and thats me on the drive on my own, with help its even quicker

a local garage is good to be me so no harm in gettign a quote

dotn think it was dan more like ian who knew his 1.2 inside out.

Hi Andy, Been following this thread. If you need the locking tool just let me know. You will only need 1 for the exhaust camshaft

Anon, it was Dan, me Dan and Ian are teh ones that know the 1.2 best, ne from a tech perspective... i can pull apart the entire car and rebuild it no problem

Axle, see how things go, but cheers for the offer mate :)

my bad it was u as well then

just that ian mentioned the 3 different releases of the 1.2 that came out all but the last oen has a poor gearbox

but all were bad comapred to a 1.6 or abvoe.

Andy, how easy is it to put a punto 6 speed into the 1.2, and is it worth doing? I think my synchro is on its way out, and my clutch has a really high biting point.

we had issues over punto boxes fitting on my bravo, searched on line and accordign to an italian gearbox reconditioners the punto box should fit, iirc the box has C514 marked on it, but our mech tried 15 punto boxes from punto's all stamped the same and none of them would sit properly on the car!

if you need a box i have a spare 1.2 bravo box,
if your interested drop me an email.
