From the Telegraph ...

As an insurance broker for 30 years, I can confirm that the practice of `loading’ the premium after a claim is becoming more common when you have a protected bonus. This needs to be challenged. We are advising people not to bother protecting NCDs now, because you are protecting the discount in name only. RR, via email

Many thanks. It is outrageous that a policyholder pays for a protected no-claims discount then finds, after a claim, that his basic premium has risen by more than the discount. Honest John

Point being?

Discount is off of the none discounted price.

None discounted price will have gone up with a claim, thus meaning discounted price would have gone up very slightly from pre-accident discounted price also.

Not right in the event of none fault claims etc, but unfortunatly how it is (n)

I think we all know if you claim it goes up.
by protecting your no claims your trying to keep your premium cheaper.

what you protect is your years NCD awarded
so if you had 5 years before the bump you have 5 after
this gives you the % discount the insurer gives for 5 years NCD
it doesnt change the rasie in premium associated with being involved in an accident
