my dads brava (96 P ELX) failed its mot on friday because od a lot of play in the nearside front wheel. The mot guy said it was this joint that was causing it. he said it was an easy job to do but i need to know what the part is called so that i can order it. So ive done a very professional job of drawing it in paint for you all to see.can anyone name the part?

ring up mot place and ask them what it is... theyve got to know what it is if theyve failed you for it.

Thats the n/s/f track rod end mate....
That jack looks a bit wonky,if i were you i would put a axle stand under just in case..

They cost about 15-20 quid from a motor factors or 40-45 from fiat, you need to do the tracking after youve replaced it though to stop the tyres scrubbing. My advice is get one from fiat as the non genuine ones are always too short and then you have too get one from fiat anyway...

cheers fellas, has any one else used a motor factors one? as i fancy gettin it as cheap as pos as the car will probably be dead soon.

My bravo failed on this only 2 weeks ago and it was the BALL joint as it had, as you said a lot of play . As the other guys said the garage will tell you what it is .

i had the wheel off today to check for myself as my dad has no mechanical knowledge and couldnt remember what the mot guy said it was and it is definately the play in this joint causing it- when i move the wheel, the joint is very loose and the nut at the botttom, although it is tight, moves a little-if that makes sense.

ball joint

as stated, it looks like the track rod end. A tenner at the most. Motor factors sell good parts cheaper than the dealers and are identical. before taking the old one off, mark the locking nut with paint or something. this will give you an idea how far to screw the new joint on. Also as previously said, have the tracking done

my mot failed on ball joint aswell recently - not only that, the mot guy said 'this is really bad, i'm surprised its not caused you an accident!'

funnily enough i had spun out due to strrrange circumstances recently beforehand, it could have been the balljoint that caused the spin.

Also i failed on drivers side seatbelt harness anchorage - apparently it was ready to come off! how bad could that have been!
