Mystery Parts and ICV

Hi,

Could you help me out with the identification and placement of these parts:

also, does anybody know exactly how to replace the Idle Control Valve? I can source the part fine, but I have no knowledge on how to replace it.

I see, but on this post you don't cover some of the steps on how to remove it, and also its placement in the car. Please could you provide me with this information.

Hi Chris. Its a twenty minute job. Undo the cable connector (it's held in place with a small metal clip). Remove the two pozidrive screws. These may be very tight and a sharp tap with a good fitting screwdriver and hammer will help. You might try tightening them, before unscrewing them, as this can also help. With the two screws and washer removed, simply pull the old ICV away. The paper gasket will almost certainly rip. With the ICV out of the way, clean up the mating face with a new stanley knife blade. Take care that no bits enter the manifold and it may be useful to have the hoover ready to remove any bits that do. When the face is clean, carefully smear some Hylomar (or similar) gasket goo onto the face and fit your new ICV. Make sure that any Instant Gasket you buy is suitable for petrol systems as many aren't. Refit the screws and the cable connector. I chewed up one of my screws when removing it so I replaced them with comparable SS machine screws and washers. These are easier to drive as you can obviously use a socket. I would have used allen head cap screws if I had any but I didnt. When you restart the car, the tickover will be errattic for a few miles until the ECU settles down and readjusts itself.

easy those are the 4 covers wich cover the screws on the optinal luggage rack on back of the B

hold on to them, they are worth some as they are rare parts
 
ooooooh, I have some rare parts there! Shame i only have one proper one. I might find some more in the spare wheel compartment.

Steve, I think that it is the right part. Does it look identical to the one that you fitted?


And this is abit off topic, but I do not want the start another thread.

I just picked up wind of some sort of thing that you fit under the car to increase the handling, what is this, and where can I get it?

Hmmmmm youv'e got the Luggage rack covers, I've got the Luggage Rack, with no covers, I am so glad that you have found them for me, hold on to them and I will collect them when I am next in Liverpool!!
 
Haha, I have a luggage rack too! I will have to have a good look for more of them as I did not know that they are in such scarcity.
 
If anyone wants those covers. I"ve got a set of 4 for sale.
I can put them on ebay if you like.
 
If you do sell them, keep me updated on how much they sell for.

So, does anyone know about that frame that you put under the car that I mentioned a few posts ago?

I don't know, I think that I was thinking of the strut brace as mentioned by Bumble.

Does anyone have a strut brace fitted? Does it actually improve handling?

Hiya! Chris,

A strut brace is the silver metal bar you can see in my signiture picture,
It bolts onto the suspension top bolts and is used to help stiffen the vehicle chassis when cornering. Its a worthwhile modification to be had, especially to a convertible vehicle such as the B.

The Anti roll bars i mentioned earlier are the bars on the underside of the vehicle ( the blue & red bars in the pic) which do improove the vehicles handling, The Eibach kit shown are thicker than the standard and help the vehicle to ride flater to the ground, producing less body roll and more grip to the tyres so handling / cornering is improoved.

Also a worthwhile mod, :)

Yes and no.
Don't buy jom design. they don't fit. I've had one.
Just buy an omp for about €80 and you will be fine.

fitting is straigt forward. just undo 2 bolts, fit and retorque the bolts.
