What's above that ? everything lol.

If you can't see anything from above probably it's from the water pump. Feel with your hands under the plastic timing belt cover if there's coolant.

Hmmmm I'd check hydraulic (brake) fluid too sounds a similar consistency to that. The reservoir is small and at the top/back of the engine right in front of the drivers side, it's mounted on the top left. And interesting that you mention the plastic cover underneath the engine bay... I might be wrong but from what you're saying that sounds like a similar position to where the hydraulics for the clutch cylinders are...??!

Thanks for the suggestion. I've got appt with mechanic at 1pm and will mention this as well. Is hydraulic fluid clear in colour and of a thin consistency? It was slow to dry on driveway but with rains last night is all gone and left no residue. I've noticed it only leaked when leaving drive and wasn't still leaking when returning. Not sure if it is something sitting I. Drip pan and the movement causes it to run on to drive but hasn't been leaking last couple days however I haven't moved it either. After seeing mechanic I'll inform all what the problem is.

That's great that you've got it booked in to be looked at today. As a few others have mentioned, it can look a little like water but it depends on the condition of it... The fact that it happens when you are driving but is gone by the time you return could be down to the engine being hot enough to evaporate it by the time you get back... It is definitely possible that while your car sits it gathers in the plastic cover and when you pull off it all spills out and of course by the time you return there isn't any left because the movement has got rid of it all and as I just mentioned, the heat of the engine could evaporate it... It's hard to tell with out seeing exactly where the leak is coming from and with out seeing the liquid. Good luck at the garage today, let us all know what it turns out to be...!

Back from mechanic. Still a bit of a mystery but we are getting closer. Leak coming from vicinity of water pump. Pump and timing belt were changed back in Jun-13 however reading paperwork that accompanied the car, it says fan wasn't circulating water and the clip around rad was rusted. It went further to way the mechanic at that time suggested replacing pump and see if that sorts problem. Whatever the issue was back then, this was a short term fix but obviously didn't fix the original problem. I've booked car back in with my mechanic who will take wheel off and start prodding around to find and fix the issue once and for all. In the meantime I need to make sure expansion tank maintains at least half full at all times until 21st when my mechanic gets ahold of car.

Thanks all for your very helpful suggestions.

Car finally fixed. Had to replace coolant pipe that comes out of back of water pump. Had leak near end of pipe that attaches to pump. Labour intensive to get old one out and replacement in.
