Ah looked like a 2, not a 7..

Losing points for indicating when no other cars present? Could understand the 1 by 1 gears thing though, usually 4th to 2nd coming upto a roundabout is normal. In the Tipo 2nd to 4th is quite usual too.

yeah but going up i tend to only use 1, 3 and 5

Block shifting up gear's isn't healthy, I got a right doing off my driving instructor for doing it once, started ranting on about how it can wear out your gearbox.

The only thing he faulted me on really was how I came down the gears 1 by 1 when decelerating...

That and I shouldn't indicate when there's no other cars around me.

I got the 2nd best on the road, give me credit!

I do the same with the gears, unless situation chages suddenly / unexpectedly... and the indicators, usually even self cancel mine! But yeah... WELL DONE (y)

JTD Stilo... neigh on impossible to be in the wrong gear SOOOOO much torque :yum: (110 the other night in 4th with 500 rpm & an extra gear to go  Road Angel on shopping list now  )

How will it wear out the box? If the speed is in the range of the gear then its fine to use. I could drive everywhere in 4th in the Tipo if I wanted to. Can pull away from the lights in 4th and its also good for over 80mph..

Im only saying what I was told when I was learning to drive, that block shifting upwards put unnecessary stress on the gearbox. Talk about don't shoot the messenger ;):p

Well done Dan! Nice shot of your car out there as well :) IMO the IAM are too restrictive on some things, I never could seem to manage with the keeping calm when some other driver was seriously getting on my nerves with their dangerous driving (where I would usually warn said other driver of my presence and swear to the high heavens). So gave it up  Most of the rest of it I could adhere to!

I managed to sneak a picture in Fast Car this month (me not my car) from Preston Cruise (y) Nowhere near as impressive as this though :D

My instructor saluted block changes... I often use gear 1, 2, 3 then 5. Sometimes, 1, 2, 4... Hey it depends :)

Nothing damaging about them, surely.

Nice one MaxFellas...

What does the IAM guy mean about should not indicate when there is no one around?

What if you drive mostly at night and there is no one about then develope a non indicating bad habbit?

I think they were just being dumb cause they knew it was being published in a magazine and didn't want to have the age old argument of Old vs Young correct.
