Hi Guys and girls,

Right so i got the alloys fitted (finnally)

and now bought a bass tube with built in AMP, however the amp turns on but there isnt any sound and the protected light isnt on, could this be because i dont have a heavy duty battery? any ideas on what im doing rong

thanks

Darren

I doubt itwill be because you haent got a heavy duty battery. What model etc is your base tube? and give us a rough idea of how you have it wired up (RCA cables, remote etc)
Cheers,
Alan

basic wiring for stuff like subs. make sure the RCA is plugged in properly, and is also run down the opposite side of the car to the power cable. another thing is proper grounding, i used to get a rate dodgy sound when my amp wasnt grounded properly. get some wire wool and make sure all the paint is removed around the bolt you are going to ground to.

its a fusion 10inch, i think its 300 watts.

I have the remote lead connected to head unit
Ground connected to car
12V connected to battery

the 2 RCA leads connected to the 2 pre-out cables in the head unit

according to the instruction this should make it work, however no luck :(

why should the leads be run down opposite sides? does this make a difference then? i have the ground connected to a bolt that i think holds the bumper to the car, should i try a different, The AMP is getting power...just the protected ligith isnt powering up

cheers

it just stops interference .. im not totally sure tbh.. but ive always been told power down right, RCA down left.

sounds like you've wired it up correctly, so from the information you've given i cant see anything wrong.

just check the ground and run RCA and power down different sides and see how that goes.

ok thanks, ill have another go tonight. ill report back tomoz...and hopefully post a pic of my new alloys on the car :D

im 'from' London, but moved to leicester with my fiance...we live...erm i think its called belgrave area not sure ... off abbey lane

if you run signal cables tightly next to power cables this will probably cuase interference.

the power cable gives off a magnetic field and the signal cable will pick this up, therefore cause intererference coming from the speaker.

tbh its much more noticable when the signal is already amplified, ie speaker cables...less noticeable on interconnect (RCA) cables.

my two cents: check all your settings on your head unit...which is?

another test to see if the sub is working is to put your finger on the RCA plug at the HU end...sub should make a noise

also double check the gain and freq input is up on the amp etc

everytime i took the rca cables out to swap them to see if this helped it made a noise, all the dials i fiddled with while it was all connected and no difference, i had my base to 6 and treble to 4 on my head unit (both out of 7) there must be something really simple that im not doing...but simple things pass simple minds!! haha

What model HU have you got?? I ask as some makes (such as pioneer) can have the RCA outputs turned off.
Cheers,
Alan

is this why my speakers in the rear panels fuzz maybe?
ive put speakers where the rear passenger armrests used to be... all the cables for subs/amp in the boot and speakers in panel run down the drivers side together...
the speakers in the rear panels are powered from the amp aswell
they fuzz a bit when nothin is playing... nothing dramatic, but it annoys me a little
could this be interference?

cheers

Yep....quite possibly! Either that or the earth isnt very good, but most likely interference from the power cables.

im a bit hazy as whether i earthed to bare metal when i did, im sure i did... because i vaguely remember thinking about picking a point with the least/no paint... have to have a look some time...

although its just the smaller speakers that crackle, and not the subs
then again, might have been my dodgy soldering-ironmanship that could be to blame

my HU is Ripspeed, i think it may be buggered because it keeps turning off now, all the wires must be loose, going to take it out tonight and fiddle...which means ill probably end up bracking it, hope not though.... i think that all the wires might be loose as they all hang down, and i think thats why it turns off because all the wires are coming out the connections......i know what i mean (y) lol

its annoying because nothing has been simple with this car yet...took two weeks to get my alloys on :( now i have a sub sitting indoors thats screaming at me to use it...and i cant :bang: but....going to look at lunch....fiddle with everything and then try the sub tonight...if no luck...the hammer comes out:rolleyes:
