Panda (Classic) My Purple Panda Parade Progress log

Introduction

Well folks, after keeping it under my hat all week (to avoid any embarrassment if the ebay winner actually collected the car) I have bought the purple panda parade from another user on here, neeny. They had sold it on ebay, and to cut a long story short the winner of the auction didn't collect, so the transaction was cancelled, and I offered to buy it in his place (I had actually nearly bid on the car on the original run but I confused myself and thought it was LHD which wouldn't have been any good to me) So I made the trip to fife (and on the way crossed the forth road bridge and saw the forth rail bridge which is a bit of an ambition of mine) and collected it. It took some getting used to driving! My current daily is a Citroen C2 GT, and the two cars are very very different. I have prior experience driving Fiats, as my first 3 cars were a mix of mk1 and mk2a puntos, and the first car I ever drove was my dad's tipo.

Anyway I digress, I drove it home in blizzard conditions and am very impressed with it! The only thing is that it has sat for a while and the brakes are very spongy (not a criticism of the previous owners, they were extremely honest about the car and answered all my questions, they were very kind and nice people and I hope to see them again, perhaps at a show) The Mohair twin sunroofs were slightly damp on the inside (again, not a criticism, it has been extremely wet in Scotland recently, and there is only so much it can take) not leaking or anything, just slightly damp, so I aim to treat this with fabric water repellant. There are some decals and stickers on it which aren't to my personal tastes, so I will remove these, and keep the ones which are to my taste :) The rear sunroof needs a new strap, so I will need to source one of these, or get my fiance to make a new one if I can get a hold of some leather or rubber if I find they are unavailable :)

I am very pleased with my new purchase, and consider myself very lucky to have managed to get it, the buyer on ebay should be kicking himself! And also I am very lucky to have met such kind people as Janine and Stewart, and to have found a forum with such helpful people. Anyway folks lets get down to business...photos! I apologize for the poor quality of some of these photos, it was dark before I took some of these and it is very cold so my hand was shaking. Hopefully you join me on my journey folks :) The panda is currently in my garage being aired out in an attempt to part dry the sunroofs before I bust out the hairdryer tomorrow :)

My works computer hasn't even attempted to load them :(

It's a good job I'm on unlimited broadband - those pictures took ages to load!

Very nice though, those bumpers look like they've been bulled by a Private.

You missed a bit under the sunroof though

Really? They have been resized to make it easier to load as well (n)

Thanks :) And I know I was a bit cautious seeing as this is my first time washing it, I didn't want to get anything on the sunroofs If I could avoid it. I am going to go round the rubber bits later on with wipes. But thanks :)

Looking good (y)

And don't listen to them - pictures loaded immediately on a phone working via wifi, so should be fine on anything from the 20th Century (yes I did mean 20th! :D ).

Thanks Gavin, today was a really great day cleaning :) it looks much better, and it feels more "mine" in a wierd sort of way.

I should probably have put pic heavy in my thread title :)

You spend all that time cleaning it and someone comes along and pours cooking oil over your bumpers :p
Looking great (y) nice space you have for working on it too!
You could get 5 more panda's on there!! :D

Clack it does look like that doesnt it :)

Thanks, Im very lucky to have bought this house, I bought it in August last year :) There was competition for it, but I made an offer first and it was accepted :) Its a very long driveway, and the garage is good too, but very old, really I need a new garage.

Todays jobs were replacing old fuses with new ones, (I dont have any spare relays, but I reckon I will get some)setting the washer nozzles towards the windscreen and not spraying over the car clackety clack and putting a new rear sunroof strap on :) My fiance also directed me to a local "beauty spot" where views of the ailsa craig and arran were possible :)

Cars looking fantastic...(y)

Do you know that the grille should be colour coded as per the body??...a can from any place like halfords is very cheap..they will make it up. Or just give them the paint code stuck in the tailgate.

Thanks Kev, yes I knew that, that was the first question I asked venters when I spoke to him (why it wasn't colour coded) and he kindly gave me a tin of colour coded paint. But to be honest I like the look of it the way it is :)

And thanks, I think it looks fantastic too, getting there :)

Today I changed the spark plugs, nice easy job :) I also put wd40 on the throttle cable while I was there :) I put in the mats from my C2 as a temporary measure, the colour looks good in the panda, but the metal plate isn't really my kind of thing, but it protects the carpet so it can wait until I get new mats. I had both sunroofs open last night as I was desperate to try out the new sunroof strap, the pandamadness is taking hold folks!!

Today I topped up the gearbox oil (It didn't really need much, but I thought I would check and just put a little in anyways as it is a little noisy in first and second. I have also come to the conclusion the brake master cylinder is not working properly as the brakes are very spongy after bleeding them three times, and pumping them helps so the symptoms point to that. I have ordered one from ebay for a pretty reasonable price (I did a best offer which Ive never done before, but it was accepted) also I have plans to replace the foam under the bonnet above the spare wheel as the current one is worn. Also I will fix the insulation from round the heater intake up.
