When I replace my Currant Car in 18 - 24 month's time it looks like I wont be going for Fiat:shakehead:

Basicy it comes down to the big white box on wheels that goes on the back (caravan) Fiat just don't make a car that can handle the weight or to be more specific the nose weight of modern caravans.

I am going to have to join the 4x4 brigade :yuck:

I was going to go for a Croma but it only has a max nose weight of 75KG and as my present Marea has a max nose weight of 70KG and we struggle to get the van's nose as low as that the Croma will be no good.

I have managed to find a 4x4 that doesn't require a re mortgage every time the tax is due or has to be followed by a fuel tanker. The Honda CR-V it is in tax group E so £200 per year for tax from 2010 and dose 42mpg, but it will never feel like a Fiat dose

What about the Croma with the 2.4 diesel? That must be a very torquey engine. Or do us all a favour and sell the caravan, they're cursed round here in the summer! (joke)

Yes the Croma is a very good tow car I wanted the 1.9 16v but the max nose weight is only 75kg as I said

use hotels instead. you get better comfort and it costs less even if you go on holiday 5 times a year, plus you wont make the middle finger of other road users twitch.

i'm amazed you can plan 18-24 months ahead. i rarely keep the same car for 18 months.

Isnt the Honda CR-V only 2WD and my neighbour reversed his CR-V into my bravo so i want to burn everyone of them.

The CR-V has an automatic 4 wheel drive system, normally the front wheels are used but if they start to slip power is diverted to the rear wheels.

There are some terrible caravan towers out there I have to agree, but you should see what some idiots will do just to get past a caravan The wife sees the same thing when shes out working, shes a driving instructor. She's in talks with the local police at the moment about having an office sit in while she takes a few lessons

... aren't you forgetting the cost of the big white box itself? And other downsides apart from provoking homicidal fury in other road users: like having to buy a car not because you like it but because it can cope with a big white box. Or anally abusing a perfectly respectable car by fitting a towbar. Or generally contributing to the aesthetic degradation of the countryside or the street where big white box gets kept.... It's not that I have anything against you caravannners, other than your bizarre love of caravanning that is! Whenever I'm behind one, or looking at a field or street decorated with one of more of them, I just remind myself that we are all capable of taking up hobbies which are utterly beyond the comprehension of others

Well if its anything like the last van the cost will be spread over 6 years so that will be £900 per year. It is used on average 20 times a year so thats £45 per trip. thats around £70 for a weekend for 2 sometimes 3 people. not counting the 2 week holiday in the summer. We bring valuable money to people in the countryside by paying to stay, we have much smaller carban foot prints than people that jet off once or twice a year. And as 90% of caravans in the UK are made in the UK we ad to the country's income. As for making the streets look untidy, I would rather see an old caravan on a drive than an rusty old white van with a copy of the sun in the windscreen on the road. Yes I would rather have a Fiat to tow it with but the Honda is a very nice car so I will be happy in the end knowing that I will have spent £30 on a bank holiday and will be set up and relaxing while others are stuck in a departure lounge waiting for a delayed flight that cost them £300

Well with you there I've never understood how the words "airport" and "relaxing weekend" can be used in the same sentence. At least it sounds like you are using the white box: so many seem to be kept for two or three trips a year... at which point the luxury break in the country house hotel actually delivers more bangs for your buck. Not to mention the "being waited on hand and foot" bit which I find so irresistible that I'd cheerfully pay more to get it... or holiday half as often. Each to their own of course
