Introduction

The day i got the cinq sx with its crap racing stripes :p

looking rather good for its age 1995 no rust no dents no deep scuffs

i previously owned a mk1 punto 60s but ive always wanted a cinq so after i purchased cinq i striped the punto down to bear chassis including engine and gearbox :D loom and so on ive been collecting parts for the 1.2 conversion for a while p75 cams full engine rebuild re skim using a big cnc machine from college :) cinq gearbox and mounts ect

Sorry, I didn't mean to put a downer on this, maybe I'm a bit bitter about mine, mechanically sound, running beautifully and barely at 80,000 and the bodywork has let me down :/

Hopefully yours is a lot better, taking the rear lights off makes checking that area easier...
 
You didn't ask, but for the sheered off stud, TIG or MIG an old bolt to it. It'll come out nicely.

WTH happened to that compressor wheel?

i have know idia lol its how it came to me i stratend the fins abit with plers but i will get a replacement or gt17 compressor side probably the latter were is the sheered off stud lol ? if you are on about the picture above its a rounded off manifold nut ?

You might see if Tricker gives away any secrets. Part of the trick is getting something that spools up reasonably quickly, but doesn't produce a horrible boost spike. Tricker -- a man of no small brain and a damn fine machinist -- looks to have got it pretty near right. A search will find.

were is the sheered off stud lol ? if you are on about the picture above its a rounded off manifold nut ?


My mistake. One of the hot air deflector bolts? Still, the old weld on a nut trick should do it.

I know Craig had one but never posted the spec of the compressor and there were no rolling road graphs IIRC.

Jason certainly had the best results in terms of power -- at least from an 8v, whether the car is/was really driveable is a different question. I was promised a test drive about 2 years ago, not seen him since! :cry:

Call me an old softie, but I like the idea of a turbo car with a nice long flat torque curve. ;) -- We can surmise that that was the case with with Tricker's car as it ran fine with a standard clutch. They're just less of a hastle to drive fast, and therefore, faster.

I know you hate me referring to books, but like the turbo Mr2 Mk1 in the Warner Street Turbocharging book (HPBooks).

Strange how many of the cars are now running with the boost turned right down. Seems that Martin's old yellow tub is now only putting out 110bhp, while I think -- from the PPC feature -- that Craig's car is now doing 115bhp, albeit it at 6psi or so, so still impressive.
 
110bhp for martins old tub is just shocking tbh.. The VA kit itself without mods supposedly makes 102bhp, and i have buried in a draw somewhere a rr printout for my old cinq turbo, that was 125bhp and that didn't really have anything that special on it, just a VA kit, uprated fuel pump, janspeed exhaust, tricker tb and ALOT of boost.
 
tbh i sent him a pm in 2010 never got back to me lol if we are essentially on about reflowing turbo that can be done heck if i go for the 3rd year in college i can use their new 5 axis and make a turbine but it all ads to the cost mind you £70 for a new one plus im looking for a better job i don't intend to run spectacular boost just enuf to beat all those chavs :)

Very hard for anyone to answer that question except him I guess, last time I looked he didn't even have a diff. Maybe someone can get hold of him on his Modified Monsters site. :confused:

Not at all, infact I was thinking we should start a tuning book thread. I honestly don't think some of the older books are a good guide on engine management though. Still one of my favourite (old) books is Corky Bell's Maximum Boost as it covers most other areas of turbo charging well and is very readable. However I'm currently reading Jeff Hartmans "How to Tune And Modify Engine Management Systems" (2004) which is far more relevant than most to the current hardware we have available. The Greg Banish series of books and DVD's are also a far better guide but certainly not a better read. I have Matt Cramer's "Performance Fuel Injection Systems" lined up next. The other problem with tuning books is they can be very opinionated (as can tuning), I have read many books that strongly disagree with each other. :)

Indeed this is why having two Maps is always going to be a better option. I liked the original Turbo Hatches of the late 80's and early 90's though, I found them so much more entertaining to drive. A lot of the newer turbo charged cars although faster, "feel" much slower and less inspiring IMO.
Sensible shouldn't be a consideration when turbocharging a cento, sensible would be buying a car that has been turbocharged already by the manufacturer, probably made in Germany or Japan. :D

I'm not disagreeing with you, just saying it the way I see it. :)
