X1/9 My first Fiat.

Introduction

Always wanted a Fiat X1/9 and having waited 33 years l finally bought one. l always thought it would be a gold 1500 but it turns out to be an early Bertone badged metallic red one instead.

l have many questions to ask and help will be gratefully received. The trouble is you see l am more a VW aircooled person. l know my way around those but these little gems l am unsure. Like crazy winking headlights and the carb cooling fan. When is that supposed to work??

Anyway here is Roberto.

Love the wink! Nice touch.

I guess it probably wasn't a mod done on purpose...?

It took me a while to realise the ignition switch is meant to shut the lights down (turn the key slowly) and also get used to flashing people at junctions etc... When the lights are down.

I too have recently bought one, after 10 years of wanting. I'm using it as my daily driver. Had 4 weeks of awesome trouble free driving and just had clutch slave leak all the fluid out... At least it'll be easy'ish to fix.

Iv got an 85 bertone vs1385936388973.jpg

Hi purf. I looked at the add for your VS. i think it was just too far away for me to travel. Even took a picture with the lights up. 2 tone blue VS or a gold one is what I always wanted. I somehow got my colours mixed up :)

My wink was not a mod but a glitch in the electrics. i can hear the relay click in when I switch the lights off. Doesn't do it all the time. And because the lights are not broken, I won't fix it. The wiring in those lights looks like trouble. I've also fitted below bumper spot lights because of the flashing.

And I've just seen you're in the same club as me with a broken slave.

So am I right in thinking that the lights don't pop up when you flash??

Mine have something odd going on because when I put the side lights on, the headlights pop up but don't illuminate. I'm sure that's not right.

I tlhink that is the correct way they work. Pop up with the sidelights, no light, but you can flash the lights. At least that is how mine works.

Well that's good to know. Well it's that or our X1/9's were handcrafted by the same person :)

I prefer the term "handcrafted" instead of thrown together. Bertone makes master pieces.
