Hi gang, my name is Dale and I bought a P reg Brava this week. It's the 1.4S and was bought as a second car to hopefully save on fuel costs as our main car is a gas guzzler.

I am a little concerned though as I have read good and bad things about the 1.4's fuel consumption. I was just wondering what the general opinion on this is as I have heard reports of the 1.4 doing 35 mpg and reports of it doing 20 mpg. Is this a common trait or is it down to the way it is driven?

If I get decent MPG, I will be keeping the car for my Fiancee to get to and from work and I may even have some mods in mind once the car is back on the road as it is currently sorned. I am waiting for my cover note to come through to tax it and away we go.

Thanks for your time all.

Dale.

I have no first hand experience with the 1.4, but in general terms, it is less economical than either the 1.2 or the 1.6 in everyday use.

Maybe if your fiance is very very gentle with it you might be able to get 30+mpg, but from what I've heard on here over the years, its difficult.

There are some though who defend the 1.4, so if youre lucky you might get a good one? Time will tell.....

Hello Dale and Welcome :)

The 1.4 aint that bad if its serviced regular and the mpg is a bit too much for a 1.4 but all in all not too much.

Thanks for that guys.

I was kinda thinking the same thing. I once had a 1.3 mark2 cavalier (oh, those were the days ;) ) and that gave good mpg as long as it was driven properly, if you know what I mean but being a bit of a boy racer in those days, once it got over 75 mph, it drank the fuel.

I'm hoping the Brava has the same frame of mind. Most of the trip to work is on the motorway and is about 17 miles, only 3 or 4 of which are on urban roads, so hopefully, I'll, well Nic will get good MPG.

Oh, any recommended mods engine wise? I was thinking of an induction kit, 20 quid from Argos. :)

I may debadge later too.

you can always go down mine or allan walls route with your brava!

Thanks for the replies guys.

Well, it's been over a week now and we filled our Brava up last weekend and we've done 165 miles on half a tank, so I'm not to displeased with that, infact, I am quietly pleased. : )

As for mods, I debadged today and it looks better already. I'm thinking a cheapish bodykit from somewhere and maybe second hand alloys or summat, we'll see. I would like to colour code it at least as it has black bumpers.
