Hi All

I have a fiat 500, Not completely sure on the year model, I have the plate that has the engine and chassis number on it, if that helps?

It is the 500 with the suicide doors and the sunroof that folds all the way back close to the engine bay lid.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Im based in South Africa,

These are currently the only pictures I have at the moment, will post better ones later today when I can.

it looks like an N.. 57-59 probably 58/59 (very few 57s left Italy..)
it may or may not have the front vents...
you can tell because the later N's (59-60) had different shape rear lights that required a different cutout in the rear wings.. this has the earlier smaller nicer lights..
also has the earlier teardrop side repeaters.
However it has D doors
If you want to PM me the chassis numbers I will date it to within a month of it's production
It also looks RHD.. so there are now probably 10+ known RHD N's in the world :)

Ok so I lost alot of photos during the bodywork and paintwork part of this car, and been in storage for very long since. So decided now to get it complete. The first is was to find out details of the car.

To answer a few questions:

-Yes is has vents in the front

-I have the engine number and the number pressed into the body work, they are different though?

-It is a RHD, so what does it mean if there are only 10+ ??

-you mentioned it has 'D' Doors, what is the difference?

Front vents - do you have the plastic collectors that go behind them?
the fiberglass repro ones from Italy are rubbish, be prepared to give up a kidney for a pair of originals.

number in the body is the chassis number - it should match the lower number on the alloy plate, the upper number on the alloy plate is the engine number and should be 110.000 (if it's 110.004 jump for joy) it should match the actual number on the engine...

RHD, well there are only about 10 world wide so somewhat rare, but since the majority of the world is LHD some what limited market...

D doors have the little metal handle built in to where the interior panel fits just below the window glass, N's had alloy handles that screwed onto the door frame.
Also N's had different 1/4 frames and D doors didn't have the small recess in the upper door edge for the 1/4 pivot, basically it means you can use later frames that are a lot cheaper.

hope that helps..

Ok so just an update...

We have just established that the car is a 1958 Fiat 500 N model, same as the engine.

So quite happy about that...

Will post pics of some parts and so on later...

So would anyone know where I can get a set of seats? Can not find anything here in South Africa.
