Ok..

So my MOT is due middle of this Month.. and i know they are going to pick up on at least 2 things. My non-working Handbrake, don't think it's ever worked since i've owned the car. And my Exhaust.

Basically I have a Janspeed backbox on my car. However it has a huge hole in the tailpipe.. (It sounds rubbish!) but most importantly it will most likely fail the MOT as it really is huge lol.

So what do i do... do i get it welded? Or should i fork out and buy a complete Exhaust system (I wanted to do this in time, just not right now..) Only other option i was thinking was to buy a cheap standard exhaust system and fit that for the MOT, although i don't think i could go back to standard lol!

Help, i dunno what to do!!

Oh and any suggestions for the handbrake are welcome too!

Thanks!!

Handbrake is easy enough, if a real PITA. The guide is pretty good, although I usually soak seized actuators in WD40, bash em with a rubber mallet and really make them free before working coppaslip into the joint and putting them back on.

For the exhaust, it really depends how big the hole is (and exactly where). Pic? Usually there's an old fellah round the corner with a gas torch who'll do it for a few quid, but if it's on a seam it gets tricky.

I'm not very good at explaining, but the hole is where the shiny exhaust tip (this is bigger than the actual pipe) joins the pipe... and the hole is there.. and it's quite a big hole, i reckon it won't hold much longer.. So i think i'm just going to have to buy a new one!

it may be worth just changing the exhaust as you say, if the system can be described as (excessivly corroded) it fails straight away and even if it passed the visual, a hole in the exhaust alows pulses of air to be draw in which is messured by the emmision tester, thus giving a very high lambda reading.
i see this alot at work,,,,althought ive seen some tatty exhausts go through the test :)

I want a full stainless steel exhaust system though, so i don't know if it's worth spending on money on this one now and if i should just put my pennies towards a new exhaust system.. and Rory.. i get paid on 25th April, so i should be able to collect the stuff of you around then lol!
